« on: April 05, 2007, 02:32:17 PM »
The Evil Bald Dr. Prof Childs alerted me to my former club Alpine making the Met Golfer's top 50 list that just came out.  But more importantly our own Pat Mucci is one of the panelist.. One can access the article and the rankings on www.mgagolf.org

The order's lunacy notwithstanding, what an absolutely remarkable concentration of wonderful golf. Remarkable.

Has there ever been a list compiled by another magazine that a Golfweek rater did not first post and then bitch about.

I noticed Engineers is not on the list.  Engineers is a very nice club with a beautiful golf course.  Tough competition.

interesting list. pretty good, but would place a few higher, and a few lower, as I'm sure you can do on any list.

after the thread about rating Bethpage Black--I would love to know what some people think about it being ranked higher then National.

Fishers seems to be alittle low. Couple Long Island Clubs could be on there. Good list, nice work.

I am not sure of the geographical size of the area covered but
is there anyplace in the world with as many good courses as shown here?

Bob

It's pretty darn packed with superb golf courses

Add to them the recently built

Sebonack
Bayonne
Liberty National

Add those left out like

Rockaway Hunting Club (Emmet Tillinghast)
Huntington CC (Dev Emmet)
Seawane (Emmet)
St Georges (Emmet)
Westhampton (Raynor)
Metedeconk Ntl (Jones Sr Rulewich)
Whippoorwill (Banks)
Old Oaks (Allison Tillinghast)
Round Hill (Travis)
Greenwich (Raynor others)
Sunningdale (Raynor Tillinghast Travis)
Tamarack (Banks)

and probably a few others and we have a strong group.

Wayne - take that Philly guys  ;D

PS- I was shocked that Hamilton B Hearst was not added to the rating panel.  He would have a good time touring the courses of the area with Donald Trump.

For Pat's ballot to be valid, it would have to have been updated and validated by Tom Paul. You could check with Tom for Pat's selections.  ;D

I wonder about any rankings when you have a rater who seeks to compare a Hearst with Donald Trump.  How gauche.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people equate money with class.

Hamilton - Apologies for your misinterpretation.  I was not at all trying to equate your sense of style and class with The Donald.  Rather I was trying to picture the HUMOR of the two of you playing together and trying to decide between the merits of Trump Bedminster and Friars Head as an example of two new courses to rate in the MGA region.

Doc,

I've often viewed my friend Wayne's position in that fight as one would the Phillies versus the Yankees for all time records...I'm going into the fox hole with Wayne but not necessarily expecting to come out...

I would have put Essex County higher, and the only other course that I could think of off the top of my head in North Jersey was was the Knoll, but that is still a pretty damn nice list.......

(Whats a matter with Plainfield Noel? I love that course!)

New Orleans, proud to swim home...........

Geoffrey -- are you sure he's not there under an alias?  A man like Hammy may need to protect his privacy.

Sully - I don't feel sorry for you as I could play every day at HVCC and be in total bliss.  In addition, the company of you dad and my good friend Linc only adds to the great things at the club.

PS- GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geoff,

When I get back from this little corner of Georgia I will have at your inane comments and address the stupid results of the survey.  With Pat voting early and often how did NGLA come out so low?  Thanks for getting in the foxhole with me, Jim.  We'll survive just fine once the noise and smoke dissipate.  I doubt the smell will go away anytime soon  ;D

Geoffrey -- just having fun too!  Though the idea of an alias of an alias is kind of amusing to me.

In all my years on this site it had become clear that many of the rating "services" don't get things right very often and that the raters on this site prefer to denigrate other rating "services" rather than publish their own individual ratings or engage in specific course commentary based on their own ratings.

Is there a rule that would prevent a rater from listing their own MGA fifty on this site?  or are the individual ratings proprietary information only to be seen by Brad Klein and Ron Whitten?

NA Freeman you seem to have a few comments but why not just list your own full list for the board?  We are dealing with a limited universe of courses in a specific region, it would seem a wonderful opportunity for raters to rate and then engage in a detailed dialogue.

Maybe when he has the time we can get Pat Mucci to share his ratings with us.  I know Pat, and I understand he does not like ratings and prefers categories, but it would be highly instructive for all of us as he most often in the most insightful analyst of courses on this site and also poses his opinions in a manner that leads to detailed analysis that we all benefit from.

One list from a Pat Mucci or a Ran Morrissett please.
