I'ma Borat and that this is my very virst post. I want to thank Premier Ran Morrissett for allowing me, Borat to cumma into this Golf Klub Itlas and post with you all, such good friends!

I bring to the group, some fresh goats nuts for all to feast on, made by my cousin's wife who has just given birth to twin Ghimpanzee. (Both mother and Ghimps are doing fine, thanks to you!)

Much excitament in Kazakhstanian history today. Your Jones Boys, Russ and Booby come to famous Kazak city to build our very first gorfl couse, Kazakhstan Gorfl & Bigga City Club. We Kazaks look forward to having these Jonesy Brothers here to build it for us.

Today was official Kazakhstan ground breaking at site near Almity, which just happens to be Kazakhstan's 36th biggest city. Much joy and sex was had by all!

Here is official press released foto from event at capital.

Borat, I have just been reading up on your profile on wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borat

It lists your hobbies as "ping pong, disco dancing, sunbathing, shooting dogs, and taking pictures of women on the toilet" but no mention of golf?

What brought you to the game and what is your handicap?

Shane.

Nice eh?

Is anyone else surprised that Borat was chosen for Cohen's first US movie?  If a character from the show was used I thought it made more sense to stick with Ali G.

Turns out they've guessed right as Borat has broader appeal and many may have thought Ali was like B-Rad Gluckman from "Malibu's Most Wanted".  I see all these characters of variations of Jiminy Glick with Borat having a twist of Yakov Smirnoff thrown in.

I don't understand... there is already a fine Golf course at Nurtau. It was good enough to host a Challenge Tour event this year.

There was an Ali G movie several years back that featured that character. Bruno is next

I can't work out if Mr Baron Cohen is either the cleverest guy alive or just a raging homophobic racist mysogynist pulling the wool.

Or maybe he's actually an astoundingly devious combination of them both...?

Borat!

I'd like to welcome you to our country and to our board. You probably never realized how good you'd look in a suit. I am also sure you appreciate how all of our hotels are well equiped with showers and runnning water.

Your english is some of the best I've heard from folks from your part of the globe. I realize southeast Asia is a long way away so it's no wonder you don't hear english spoken very often.

I'll bet it feels good to get away from the dust for a while and spend some time in a clean city for a change.

I understand your country also has a national anthem. I have to say I am a bit surprised to hear that, but pleased as well. It must make you very proud. I am sure there must be something else about your country that also makes you proud.

Well anyway, welcome, and I hope that as you discover some of our rich cultural heritage, that it can somehow help you in some small way, to improve you life just a little bit back at home.

Brian:

Mea culpa!  You're right, of course.  "Ali G Indahouse" is from 2002 - before "Da Ali G Show" hit US airwaves (not exactly) on HBO.  I don't know if it was released in the US.   I'll go look for it in Blockbuster.  I hadn't heard of it.

Thanks for the correction.

I don't understand why this thread has not been deleted either.  My wife's family descended from European gypsies.  Why is is this hate considered funny.

If Borat can bring the Jones boys together he is even more of a genius than I thought.

Amazing how suddenly some people cannot take a joke. Suddenly someone turns sympathetic when it serves him, but has no trouble being insentitive when he feels like it regardless of how others might perceive it.

I'm hesitant to jump in here but this thread has taken a harsh turn.

A huge element of the movie, and the controversy around it, is how much of it is meant as either parody or absurdity. The danger is in saying things that one doesn't mean - about Gypsies, about throwing Jews down a well (from the movie), about women, and about lots of other things.

The debate about whether one can make, for example, Kazakhstan jokes without any disrespect towards Kazakhstanis is a debate for somewhere else. Hence the request for thread deletion, I suppose.

John, I'd suggest that it's not about "hate". I think our "Borat" doesn't hate Gypsies; he's probably never knowingly met someone of Gypsy background.

Fortunately for my children we live in a large Gypsy community and have not faced these types of jokes before...I am sorry if I over reacted and see your point.  My son didn't even know he was part Gypsy until last night...now that the damage is done I wish I had never brought it up.

John,

You are posting under your real name and I have no idea if you are serious or not. A couple of points:

1. I live in New York City, it is a long line before a Gypsy reaches the front of the unique line.

2. This would be an absolute advantage to your daughters application to Boston College. I did not graduate with many Gypsies, and it would be to her advantage to be seen as being unique. Why would you hide this, again if you are serious, if it meant your family rose to something greater? This is Anerica, even in small town USA, and that is a good thing.

Paul,

I thought you were from The Vineyard, which must have a few Gypsies out in Chilmark!!
