« on: October 24, 2006, 09:44:39 AM »
I don't know if this has been mentioned before but here it is.

From golfcoursenews.com:

Wiltse Golf Design Group has been retained for the complete renovation of the exclusive Fisher Island golf course located on Fisher Island, Miami, Fla.

The renovation will feature new greens, tees, bunkers, coquina planting areas, drainage, irrigation, rock retaining walls, cart paths, and Paspalum grass.

Construction will commence April of 2007 and be completed by September of 2007. The course will be open for play Dec. 1, 2007.

Here is info on Wiltse:

Ray Wiltse. Wiltse is a golf course architect from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. He has a certificate in Electrical Engineering from Dublin Technical College and a certificate in Horticultural Maintenance and Design from Delta College. His courses include: King’s Challenge, Cedar, Mich.; Millwood Golf & Racquet Club, Springfield, Mo.; Belmont Country Club, Leesburg, Va.; King’s Walk, Grand Forks, N.D.; Reunion Resort, Orlando, Fla.; and King’s Creek, Spring Hill, Tenn.

For those speculating on his background.... Yes, Ray worked for many years at Palmer Course Design, hence the numerous "King" courses in his portfolio.

fisher island has a 9 holer surrounded by multi-million dollar condos. have to take a ferry from miami beach to the island.  one hole runs along the water at government cut. very tight and short course. on the plus side, very close to joe's stone crabs.
