Believe it or not, Nebraska.

A story in the Omaha World Herald dated 10-13-06 stated the developers of the Prairie Club project have run into a potential eyesore.

The section (640 acres) next door is what's locally known as a school section. In Nebraska, for every ten sections there is one school section.

Can you link the article.  Do you think the locals just might be getting sick of the city folk and are saying enough is enough.

I like to go for a nice quiet breakfast with my wife now and then at our local diner and you can always tell when a city dweller is in town.  Why are they so loud and why to they think I want to know they are there with their loud stories about conquests and aquisitions.  Rude bastards think they are God's gift to the country because they tip 20% on an eight dollar tab..

The issues aren't just about eyesores, it also involves a potential road that could be built across the golf course.

Dr. Trimble has owned the land for twenty years. The new owner is from South Dakota, so I'm not sure the city folk in the coffee shop analogy is applicable.

New owner...Is Dr. Trimble out.  I have heard the rumblings between Sand Hills and Dismal and have little doubt the locals are stuck in the middle.  I do think once the rater corps are out of town and the members start to frequent the place things will settle down.  I can't imagine trying to choke down a Pete's special with four raters sitting at the next table trying to top each other on intellectual nuances.

Barney, you are right. The entire problem with golf course development, golf in general is raters. I knew I would figure it out sooner or later  . If there are particular raters that have offended you, please report them to their respective publications because I am sure they don't want to be associated with them either. But enough is enough.

I'm sorry if that offends you.  I like every rater that I have ever met...of course I am lucky enough to often choose who that is. But really..can you imagine a local Nebraskan trying to have a nice quiet lunch or breakfast while seated next to a group of you guys or even me after a round at Sand Hills on the way to Dismal.  We (me not being a rater but still a bit of a pompous ass) are a sorry bunch.

I really doubt if the locals want their town to become Mrytle Beach..and when it settles down to only members and their guests it won't be.

How many courses can the Sand Hills/Dismal/Prarie Club area take before it changes the quality of life of the locals...Is it 20...which is obvious....or 3..which it may be...or 2..which could be the case now.

 Dr. Trimble sold the land in August. He is still very much a part of the golf project.

Your ramblings about the affect these courses have the towns is not really much of an issue. Mostly because these projects are more than several miles from the towns. In the case of Sand Hills, Dick Youngscap has always been very locally minded, hiring mostly within the community.
I doubt the same can be said for the other.

Don't you guys watch movies...Locals always hate the city folk.  Sure, it all starts out great with a little money influx and then next thing you know property costs are out of sight, labor costs are up, water rights questioned, daughters are abused and discarded, (maybe even sons these days)..it is a slippery slope.

How many courses can the Sand Hills/Dismal/Prarie Club area take before it changes the quality of life of the locals...Is it 20...which is obvious....or 3..which it may be...or 2..which could be the case now.

The typical job feeds 2.5 people. How is this a bad thing? I have been to Sand Hills twice but never been to Mullen or any of the surrounding towns. The only locals I met were at the club, and yes the caddies were intrigued that I actually live in Manhattan, but they were great kids.

When we played Wild Horse, we stayed at a motel, ate dinner at a bar and had breakfast on main street. You are talking about hundreds of miles between these clubs.

I know of at least one instance where a Sand Hills employee or caddy was set up in Manhattan for a summer internship. John, I love a good rater bash, but how does Mr Hurricane or Redanman picking apart XYZ green outweigh those benefits mentioned above?

When I went to Ballyneal in June, we went to the local diner in Holyoke for breakfast each morning. Each day, you coulda heard a pin drop right after we walked in wearing golf attire.  Some of the locals in these places are going to be happy, others aren't.Over time it will subside..

And that's only one of the many stories of how Sand Hills has helped individuals in the community.
 Some have even gone on to turf school and have jobs in real metro areas.
 Some have won Evans scholarships and are attending schools never dreamed.
 

I know Barney's being Barney but there's dis-function and abusers everywhere. There's just alot less of them in a town of 575.

Slaves were given housing and meals...even allowed to have families.  I wonder if they hated their masters any less at the dinner table than in the fields.  Some of them probably loved their masters and were scared and hungry when sent free...They did all have one thing in common...a wish for how things were before their masters came and changed their lives....No, 2.5 meals and a slap on the back ain't worth it.

I am a union contractor who pays prevailing wage...approx $45/hour.

When I die none of my emplyees will carry my casket and appox 10% will attend my funeral in a possible attempt to suck up to my successors.

About an hour ago my asphalt paver ran out of fuel costing me more than a years dues at any golf course within a 50 mile radius of where I sit.  I called my wife and said I was going to fire someone and she said give em a break....I told her they call me Mr. Break.  Thanks to you guys just a bit I will not fire anyone and thus feed another 2.5 people tonight.  I'm almost shaking I am so pissed.

Isn't it one of lifes great paradox's that raters have done nothing but good for one course I happen to be a member and yet I am seen as one if not their greatest detractors.  I doubt if I could afford the place if they didn't rate it so high.  Raters have been very very good to me.

I am curious.  Do the locals in the Hamptons that clean houses and wait tables hate the Gothamites..Is it really worth the influx of money when compared to the life that once was...Is this why Michael Moore wants us to come to Maine but not really...

You did not offend me, I just don't think every problem that comes along is the fault of raters. I have not met the loud obnoxious raters that you comment about. I also do not think that many raters are getting to Sand Hills or Dismal River. So that can't be a problem for the locals. The overcrowding would come from 3 clubs, a few more courses and more MEMBERS hanging out in the diners. The raters are not the problem.
