GCA GOLF BAG - ARE YOU INTERESTED?
« on: September 25, 2006, 01:53:50 PM »
I have spoken with Ran and he has said okay to a Golf Club Atlas golf bag for us to purchase with the logo embroidered on it.  Ran and I have selected the Sun Mountain Mini as the bag - this is the lightest bag that I know of that has a stand - it is just over two pounds, so it is great for those of us who walk and carry our bags, and caddies will love us.  We have chosen the silver color and it will have the Golf Club Atlas.Com logo as above with the yellow/gold letters and the flagstick with the red flag.

The bag is priced at $75.00 including drop shipping directly to you. GCA will be making no money on the transaction - it is not a fundraiser - it is being done solely to identify those of us who are active on GCA.  Any contributions you want to make to the site should continue as before and should not be sent to me.  Here is a link to Sun Mountain so you can see the bag.

http://www.sunmountain.com/default.php?cPath=2946_2947_2895&showproductlist#productlist

I need to get an idea of how many people are interested as we need a certain level of commitment to meet the guarantees required from Sun Mountain.

Please email me at gcagolfbag@yahoo.com if you are willing to commit to a purchase of the bag. I will need your name, shipping address and telephone number to pass on to Sun Mountain.  You will be paying by check to me, but no money should be sent until I post that it is a go.

I will need your commitment by October 20 to be included.  This will not be ongoing - I will not accept any commitments after the deadline.  Presuming that it is a go, we should have the bags within 30 days and well before Christmas.

This sounds great.  How are we getting it for $40 under cost?

I don't know about a lefthanded model other than I know Mike Policano has two of these bags and he plays from the left side.  We are getting a great price but we need a minimum quantity to make it work.

Is this available to those of us outside the US?
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I will have to find out about overseas shipments - all of this is contingent upon enough commitments to go ahead with Sun Mountain as there is an up front fee for the embroidery of the logo.

Only the Sun Mountain 3.5 comes in lefty.  I have a new 2006 Model and its OK but not the greatest bag in the world.  Its supposed to have an improved stand system but like my previous Sm 4.5 model it leaves something to be desired.

I am personally more fond of the MacKenzie walker bags.  The old Peter Jacobsen model.

Any thoughts on these?

Again, this is not meant to raise funds and I do not want this to be a profit making venture - any contributions to GCA should be given as before.

I have been told by Mike Policano that the bag is so light and has very little padding so it really makes no difference that it is not a left handed model.  I am checking on possibly getting a different model for lefties but it is a more expensive bag and does not come in silver.

Overseas shipping will be available - it is estimated that it will add $25.00 to the cost.  BTW - if we do have overseas orders I will need payment in US dollars from a US source - my brother lives in Canada and when he sends my kids gifts, even if they are US dollars from a Canadian bank, my bank charges a fee for processing. So please make the necessary arrangements for payment, if and when everything is firmed up and we begin the payment process.

Jerry,

I don't recall how long you have been around here but if you don't get the money up front your kids can count on golf bags for birthday gifts for years to come.

note: This reply does not indicate my desire for a bag.

JK: I will place the order when I have payment in hand - for now, I am just trying to get an idea of how many people are interested in order to meet the minimum requirements of Sun Mountain.  When I've gotten sufficient interest I will ask for money before I place the order as each bag will be drop shipped to the individual.

Good idea for the bag.

I would order one in dark green with the yellow/gold logo (a "traditional" color scheme IMHO)...silver wouldn't be my first choice....but it appears the Mini is not available in green.

Didn't mean to de-rail the thread with this comment...consider this a "bump" back to the top.   :)

I've sent the e-mail to commit to it.  While I have three good enough bags already, and wife wonders why I need another one, I'll tell her, "I had to buy it, it was on sale". ::) ;D

If you're going to do this, why in the world wouldn't you do this one:

http://www.sunmountain.com/default.php?cPath=2946_2950_2883

Maybe because it costs more than twiced as much and not enough of us would be willing to spend that.  Plus, if it doesn't have a stand and a double strap I'm not interested.

Yeah, but JVB, it's leather and it's old looking and it's cool because it's not full of newfangled gizmos like double straps and stand legs.  I think it's the perfect litmus test for GCA hypocricy... ::) :o ;)

I prefer to think of it as yet another example of Tom P's Big World Theory.

Dave, I can live without the stand, and the extra pound isn't so bad, but the double strap is a necessity, once your spine gets a bit older and arthritic, and your shoulders start to droop... ::) :-\

Now of course it is awful of me to complain about such a cool thing that Jerry is doing.. or try to change it... having done things like this, I have a unique understanding of how annoying it is to have people ask for changes when something is offered as a yes/no.... but nevertheless....

I am planning to buy one of these bags, but actually using it as the prime bag is FAR FAR from my thoughts.  It's gonna be a conversation piece pulled out for GCA outings and the like... I have plenty of bags already that serve the normal golf purpose.  I'd be surprised if I'm unique in this.

So... if it's gonna be like that.. well... I'm just thinking this would be a GREAT use for my hickories, and thus I really like the bag Dave showed.  Put a GCA logo on that and my hickories are set forever.  So I for one would love that....

But of course I will go along with the group purchase.

Huck, the logo thing is simple.  Make a cut and paste of the logo as it is found on this site, then take it as an separate file to any competent embroidery shop that has one of those scanners-embroidery sewing machines, and they can make a cloth patch (similar to a cop's arm patch logo for their cities) for you that will easily attach to your bag by sewing it on, pasting it, or some other method of attaching it.  It probably would cost <$10.
