What is the most special thing that has happened to anybody on a golf course?

Was it playing with somebody special, getting a hole in one, or simply just enjoying the day?
Or, was it playing a special course...?

My most special experience was reading about how a 16 year old kid from Seattle got to play golf with one of the top architects in the world.  :)

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

One of my more special moments happened today. I'm up in Traverse City for a few days and today I played golf at High Pointe with my 13-year-old son Ryan. Ryan just started taking the game seriously and he wants some new clubs (he's got some old beat up garage sale throw togethers). I told him once he broke 90 from the mens tees I would get him a new set. Well today he needed birdie on the 18th to shoot 89 and he canned a 30-footer to make 4. I don't know who was more excited, he or I, but his dance around the green was truly priceless.

I renamed my son, Dances with Club in Hand, after the dance he performed the first time he beat me.

I hope your son breaks 90 at CD.  Not to go against Tom, but to see him break 90 on one of the best courses in the world with brand new clubs would sure be a treat!!

Getting engaged in three feet of snow on Christmas Eve '04 with a temp in the low negatives.

Nice to see some references to "The Jerk."

I had to think quite awhile about this one...I actually have had some of my teams compile top ten lists from their careers before the end of the season.

Anyway, best one I could come up with the was the first edition of the high school girls tournament I founded at Morris Park CC in South Bend. The head pro and board were very helpful getting the event started and we had 9 teams (45 girls) for the first event, including my own team.  The boys tournament at the same course was one of the oldest events in the state, and was the only high school tournament I ever managed to win, and this one was the first real invitational for South Bend area girls teams at one of the local clubs. The day was capped when a young lady that I really think the world of took medalist honors and I got to hand her the trophy. She won the next year too.

I'm still waiting for the day when my team actually wins the tournament, then that will probably be #1 :)

BTW, a hole in one wasn't all that special for me, and I've made two of them you know! ;)

Standing on the first tee of the Old Course was one of the few times I couldn't take it back right away, as was playing with Fuzzy Zoellar in the Las Vegas Pro Am in front of a big crowd several years ago.

Now be careful how you phrase "special experience" because TePaul will rehash one of his best golf course experiences, and it doesn't involve golf!

I must be getting really old if I can't point to a specific experience but then I guess I'm lucky to have so many.

Playing the Old Course for the first time and shooting 74 with an eagle on #9 was pretty special.

Playing Pebble and Cypress Point in 1 day.

My first round at Pine Valley.

I'm still waiting on that first hole in one.

My most special Experience was a Moment.

I was sitting just outside the proshop at Cypress Point Club in the sunshine, in a total daze, replaying in my mind the morning's round. At some point during my reverie a certain avuncular gentleman arrived to whisk us down the street for lunch and an afternoon Wolf game at the MPCC Shore course.

I think about that Moment often and it always seems like it was just yesterday...

A few years ago in St Andrews,room too hot to sleep,after midnight,walked over to 18 ,sat on edge of Valley of Sin for 20 minutes and thought about things,who had been there and who will be there in years to come,could see the hint of sun light over northern horizon.Sounds goofy but it stays with me.

Mine is a tie.

On the one hand, the first day I spent at Bandon playing 36 with locals on Pac Dunes.

The next was 10-17-05 when I played Arcadia Bluffs in the morning as dawn was breaking everywhere (***insert music.."Dawn is breaking everywhere, light a candle curse the glare, draw the curtains I dont care, cause it's alright."  Anybody know it?***) and played Crystal with Doak himself in the PM. I was so nervous I hit my first drive 70 yds left.  Thanks again Tom.  Ut was 70 and sunny...in Northern michigan in mid-october.

Finally, my last day teaching University my students all had a golf outing at Hiawatha with me.  We called it the Blair Golf Project.  It was a nice send off to my golf writing duties.
