This past Saturday I had the opportunity to play the Faldo course at Wildfire in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The course was somewhat unique in that there is absolutely no water anywhere on the course but is extremely heavily bunkered.
There are numerous greenside bunkers, requiring aerial carries into most if not all greens, signicant bunkers guarding fairways as both a variation of cross bunkers and the more typical fairway bunkers guarding the sides of the landing areas.
The fairway bunkers are placed in such a way as to challenge all levels of golfers and create some amazing visual effects and on several holes various options as to where to place the tee shot to approach.
Practically all of the bunkers have steep faces but are long and big enough to allow shots as long as one is not buried in the face (which did hapen to me on one hole)
Not sure how many bunkers there are but they are everywhere and they create a very unique experience.
Is this typical of Faldo or is this unique to his designing a desert course?
Fairways and Greens,
