Twisted Dune - This Sunday
« on: February 23, 2005, 02:36:03 PM »
Do any of you guys have any interest in a really cold round of golf at Twisted Dune this Sunday? My wife is going to be out of town and I"m going a little stir crazy waiting for the warmer weather.

I'm going to play at around 10a. If anyone would like to tag a long I 'd love the company.

I live in Jersey, about 20 minutes from Philly.
How long would it take me to get to Olde York?
I'm new to the area and haven't played many courses around here at all. I'd love to join you if it is a reasonable commute.

Keep me in mind someday for Old York someday, if I may be so bold and invite myself.  I'm in Burlington Co.  I think we will all be snowed out by the look of things.   I remember when it was a golf course turn stud ranch- glad it came back.

Dune is one of my favorites- Archie built a nice course. Wish he would try another.

Olde York is in Bordentown, I've never been there, but I think it's pretty close to Exit 7 on the NJTP, which is Rt 206.

The way it looks now, the courses might all be snow covered on Sunday.  :'(

anytime anyone wants to play, please please invite yourselves! I do not have many friends that play golf, basically all of them are into other sports. Also, can get anyone on anytime at Metideconk as well. Love playing that as well. Anytime anyone wants to play, hit me up!!

since you started picking on us hardy cold-weather types, Tom: what's the coldest you ever played golf in?  ever been out there when it's 20 degrees,  :oand feeling even colder because of the wind chill factor?  do you even know what a wind chill factor is?  ::)
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

My friend, I have played golf for a LOT of years.  I've also been to Scotland and Ireland several times.  I know cold.  And oh yes, I know wind chill.  I also know rain chill.   ;D

Believe it or not, we have such in CA too.  Oh, I don't think I ever played in 20 degrees, but I definitely have in the 30s.. one memorable high school match got cancelled because of freezing rain, that after 7 holes had been played in such...

The good thing is though that I can, and do, take and leave this cold stuff.

It's gonna be about 55-60 for today's round.  I am gonna be freezing.

I threw that in just to show that although I CAN play in cold and HAVE done so, I remain a Californian and thus a wuss about such things.

 ;D ;D

Today's round is with two of my best friends in the world, in celebration of the birthday of one of them.  It's at a course that has been discussed in here called Shadow Lakes (Brentwood, CA) that received mixed reviews but that surprise surprise I find very fun... It does have wonderfully maddening greens.

The main thing for me today is to get around with a minimum of pain, post-hand injury.  I've tested it already twice and so far, so good... pain is still there, but nothing that can't be handled and it's not in the fracture area, but left over from wrist atrophy post-cast.

BUT... my friends are also gunning for me in my weakened state.  Should be very, very fun as they are very much looking to take my scalp, something they very rarely do.  Of course for me it's a win-win... If I lose, I have a great built in excuse, and if I win, I humiliate the hell out of them for losing to a cripple.

 ;D ;D

Olde York is up by Flemington, a good 30-45 minutes from the NJTP up 206/31.

Nice track too, played it a bunch two summers ago when I was working at Cherry Valley.

???  The Olde York I know is in Bordentown, just off the NJTP, a Gary Player course. It was once a golf course, turned into  Stud Ranch. Player turned in back into a golf course.

That's the Olde York I know.  Is there another in NJ?

Wow, that's three within a hundred miles of each other.

Old York CC is in Spring House, PA.

The Olde York I was speaking of is the Gary Player course. I didn't think it was that close to the turnpike.

I played a VERY COLD round of golf at Twisted Dune this past
Saturday, the course was very difficult in the wind, but still fun to play, some really good holes on the course. From the green tees I hit driver into #3 and didn't get it back to the pin!
