A nice thought, Mark.

I agree. I've met a lot of people directly because of this site that I consider close friends these days. It's pretty neat actually, isn't it.

All praise "golf's most beloved figure"   :D

I'm thankful for having shaken the hand of that beloved figure, over different fields, in different countries.

I'm also thankful for being able to meet so many terrific people on this site. I look forward to spending more time with those I've met, and meeting those I haven't.

Thanks everybody.

the fact that i can come to this site in the dead of a michigan winter and find pictures and discussion that makes it seem a bit more like summer.

I'm thankful for all of the fine, courageous people -- men and women, past and present -- who have created a world in which, for us lucky ones, it is possible to take seriously a subject as frivolous as golf.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

I'm thankful to have Dan Kelly to put things in proper perspective, and John Kavanaugh to cut through bullshit, both better than any damn near all others I have read/met.

I don't know how to put that in proper perspective -- but unless I miss my guess, John is prepared to cut through the bullshit therein!

Relative to Golf Club Atlas...

... the first post  ever read in which a man wrote "a)I wish I played like Byron Nelson (crisp shot making, wonderful short game and machine-like consistency)b)I actually play like Charles Nelson Riley (erratic, nervous and prone to hallucination; every round has a queer hole or two)."  This one post started the lurking.  It had been a long time since i had laughed so hard.

... the essays of tht same individual that at some level significantly influenced the theme of our current project.

... the two regular posters who encouraged me to throw my two cents in here from time to time.

... winning, by some miracle, what has come to be the bible of design for me on this sight.  Even if the author is a fan of the wrong hockey team.

... working with an architect who embraces the vision of his clients.

and most of all...

... the volumes of ideas, good and bad (mostly good), that have been made avaiable for use on this sight and the generous folks that have shared them.

You guys do influence projects and designs.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Cheers!

To my nephew Jeff and his fellow Marines for keeping me and so many countless others Americans safe as they fight to ensure freedom in Iraq.

I may not care for our President, but I thank all the men and women who give me and countless others the opportunity to discuss a game of golf when more serious issues are at hand.

FYI ... my nephew suffered a schrapnel wound the other day, but continues to solider on in such a difficult and far away location. Seper Fi ... and God Bless them all ...

Ditto with everything said here, except that I do very much like our President.

Additionally, I am thankful for/that:

the South team cast me off to the North at Cuscowilla;

young Mrssrs. Huckaby and Kevin Gracely were my partners/teamates and not my opponents;

at times with some of you, I got to experience a bunch of great classic and modern courses during the year, with no disappointments;

there can be so much diversity of backgrounds, occupations, and opinions, yet we remain relatively civil and our outings are such great fun.

I just registered today for this discussion board - perfect timing and topic for my first post.  I have so many things to be thankful for, but on topic for this discussion board:

I am so thankful for the past year (OK, 13 months) of golf when I had the great fortune to:

1.  play my first complete round at East Lake (first attempt was rained out)
2.  play Pebble Beach for the first time (gorgeous Saturday in April)
3.  experience links golf for the first time (just returned a week ago from Ireland having played Lahinch Old, Waterville, and The European Club)

Happy Thanksgiving!

A huge thanks to my dad who encouraged me to persue this wonderful game after being cut from a pro soccer team at home in England at the age of 17.

His advice led me back to university, a golf scholarship to the USA, where I met my wonderful wife..for whom I am ultimatley thankful.....she encouraged further education to my profession of pedaitric dentistry and to keep on laying golf.

This has led me to play at places I only dreamt of as a kid, in events that most would kill to play in...I certainly give thanks.

GCA, YOU GUYS ARE GREAT........you provide the best source of inteligent converstion on the game of golf I have ever encountered...even with JBK on board.....JB it is a pleasure.

Thanks..even if this is an official American holiday

...Family, friends, the birth of my daughter this year.

I am thankful as the quote at the bottom of my page says everyday "That we all sleep soundly in our beds each night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do us harm!"

I am thankful for my health.

And as I sat here at my inlaws looking over GCA posts, our 13 year old daughter (who knows the familiar brown stripe on the left of GCA's page well) said "your not on that site again are you?"  "Why do you read all that stuff?"  I told her I was interested in the topics, and also I just wanted to see what some of my friends are posting on here.  To which she replied, "What do you mean friends?  They are just a bunch of people on the internet that you dont even know."  Oh how little she understands.

Although I didnt think as a father it would be smart to tell our 13 year old that it was an acceptable practice to arrange, meet with, and even share overnight accomodations with strangers who you have only met online.  So I just had to say that many of these people on here are friends of mine who I have met before.  (And to that I would add that many more I hope to meet in the coming months and years)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and God Bless our men and women in uniform serving overseas, I wish I could be there to serve you all Thanksgiving dinner myself.

I am thankful for Mike Sweeney and Dan Taylor, without whom I would still be a shadowy Hamilton B. Hearst-like entity, barely existing . . .

Turboe, I knew you had a literary side - that quotation is in fact from George Orwell.

Mr. Moore

I am glad you have found two friends who defended you when you made your attack on Pat Mucci for setting up an outing at his club in the manner he saw fit.

Did you ever apologize to Pat?

I do not need access to any courses, so it may be a while before I become fast friends with anyone on this site.  Would I be less "shadowy" if I sent private "i will be in town can I golf at your club" IM's?

I'm thankful for people like Mike Hendren, Tom Huckaby, Tony Chapman, John Stiles, Bob Huntley, Carlyle Rood, and many others whose character and friendship make golf just part of the enjoyment of the day.

I'm thankful that there are courses where friends can be made without needing to "ask for access".

And I'm thankful that GCA.com has evolved to the point where not only do architects have butt-boys, but some of the posters as well.
