You guys are impressive listing the best holes you saw this year.  I'm still struggling trying to figure out the best golf course I saw this year let alone the best single hole.  Maybe you all should become raters  ;D

Not much traveling for me this year due to my new venture.
But, I did get to Lubbock to see one very good golf course. Best hole, IMO,

#3 at The Rawls Course at Texas Tech

So many holes, so little time ;D
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

The just-restored fifth hole at Beverly CC in Chicago is the best hole I've seen so far this year!! :)

Ron Prichard has taken an excellent, uphill, 418-yard four par through a bowling-lane of trees and with a tweak here-and-there to the Ross hole, he has added a fairway bunker left, moved the fairway a tad right, removed some trees along the right and after restoring the bunkers that were there, placed another into the hillside left and - voila! - the best hole I've seen all year!

Can't wait to actually play it!!!! ;) ;)

Absolutely great hole! Isn't that green a piece of work. Hope you didn't have too many RAF strafings that day>

If I had to pick one hole, I'd say the one that I like the best was the 13th at Crystal Downs.

Others of note were the 10th at Rolling Green, 12th at Southern Hills, 5th at Old Town.

Par 3 - 16th @ Cypress - made par  ;D

Par 4 - 8th @ Pebble - made par   ;D

Par 5 - 18th @ NGLA - made par, and round 2 - made and X :'(

The X was in the difficult condition of November's outing. Maybe I should only play great courses and great holes  as I am not making those scores on the other courses. ;)

(PS -- When Huckaby gets around to responding to this after yet another sojourn on the Clorox watch spent rating a CCFAD in NorCal  ;D, the Vegas line on holes mentioned is 5 1/2.)

I'll take the over.  (smiley, smiley...)

Ha!  Fooled you both.  I read this yesterday and figured there's no way I can single out any one hole, so I didn't respond.  Still won't.  To thine own self be true...  ;D ;D ;D

redanman,

Last I saw, #13 at Pac Dunes was a par 4.  I think you probably mean #14 as the top par 3.

#9 at Yale, especially with the pin on the back tier. 2 Putting from the valley through the middle of the green is a tremendous task.

many thanks to my hero and idol Mr. Cirba - I have my answer:

The 16th at Cypress Point.

With a four-ball made up of Lou Duran, Tom Huckaby, Geoffrey Childs, and myself, only the merry Irishman's ball stayed dry.

Obviously not a hole that adequately separates the wheat from the chaff.  ;)

I saw/played some great holes in person. However, some of the best stuff that I saw were the pictures that have been posted on GCA.com.

The pictures of Friars Head and Sand Hills were particularily good. The best picture hole though was the black and white original fortress hole at Yale. I loved all the Yale phoos.

Capturing the nuances of a golf hole in a photograph can be difficult. I think most of the pictures posted were by amateur photographers and they were great. Keep the pictures coming.
