Very sad and sobering news indeed.
Way too young-not even a year older than I am.

Despite walking the walk and talking the talk, he was always very level headed and humble.
His contributions will be missed on GCA as he always brought a varied and educated perspective, while being able to look at all sides of an architectural, golf course or Tour issue.

I just saw this.  Pat was a wonderful member of this community who could bridge the gap between elite play and our theoretical musings.  I wish the best to his loved ones.

ONE of Burke's colleagues from the tour sent me a note with a hilarious story about Burke.

Please send me your thoughts (and whether they should be anonymous or not) about Patrick and his interactions on the DG.

He deserves to have his story written, and our portion of his story is one that many might not know.

buffalogolfer @ gmail is how to get in touch with me.

Thanks for sharing the news, Tommy, sad as it is. I have many regrets in life, but #1 is not meeting more posters on here, Pat is definitely one I wish I had met.

When Pat was coming over to Scotland to try to qualify for the Senior Open at Carnoustie eight years ago, I reached out offering to caddy for him. Maybe Tommy put in a good word, but next thing is the Fat Goalie and the Fatbaldydrummer are marching together - firstly over the sweet Links of Monifieth and then the epic Carnoustie.
We got on fantastically well and had an absolute blast together, with much laughter, joking and silliness. Pat marked his golf balls in a particular way - the capital initials ‘ETA’  in blue Sharpie. When I asked him about it, he explained quite clearly and concisely that the letters were there to always remind him that Golf is not a game of perfect or one that you will ever completely conquer. They stand for ‘Embrace The Absurdity’. That says everything you need to know about the man.
Pat was incredible to watch playing - with the most majestic pair of hands and a delicious swing which could work the ball in any way he wanted.
We’ve kept in touch since, so it was with a very heavy heart I read Tommy’s note on Facebook, over at Max’s and now here.
Swing easy, wee fella. You’re much missed.
Fx.

Thanks for sharing this, FBD, it warms my heart.
Big drivers and hot balls are the product of golf course design that rewards the hit one far then hit one high strategy.  Shinny showed everyone how to take care of this whole technology dilemma. - Pat Brockwell, 6/24/04
