Maybe Scotland too?Boris Johnson is on Wednesday expected to approve the reopening of England’s doors to double-vaccinated tourists from the EU and the US, in a move that will bring relief to the country’s leisure sector. Whitehall officials said UK ministers, led by chancellor Rishi Sunak, had pushed the prime minister to act, arguing that it was safe to start readmitting foreign tourists without the need for quarantine if they had received two jabs. Sunak was particularly concerned that tourist destinations like London would lose out to locations like Paris and Rome now that the EU had decided to admit US visitors.

There is an article in this morning’s Times which has a couple of interesting lines in. Speculation, but the journalist who wrote it is usually pretty well informed. A couple of quotes -

‘Americans will be allowed to enter the UK and avoid quarantining if they produce vaccine cards proving they have been double-jabbed, as part of a drive to open up transatlantic travel’.

No time frame given though.

And this one -
‘Ministers are preparing to ease travel rules for expats returning to the UK from Sunday. UK citizens living overseas who have had both doses will no longer need to self isolate when they arrive from an amber/list country, such as the US’.

Needless to say nothing is certain but for those of you looking to travel to the UK this may give some hope!

I've got every finger and toe crossed on both hands and feet that this happens. Planning on going over for the Halford Hewitt in mid-September. Not having to quarantine would be awesome.

I figure this is the best place to get the proper answer. I was asked to be part of a great East Lothian golf trip originally planned for June, 2020. The organizer is re-scheduling for September 2021. Of course I want to go but I am confused by the red light, amber light, green light system in the UK.

What are the rules/requirements of a vaccinated US citizens traveling to Scotland? Will I need to quarantine upon arrival?

Thanks.

Bill, you finally have an answer. Yes, you will be able to go. (Unless they change their minds)  ;D

But not Canadians despite the fact that Canada has a higher vaccination rate that the US or EU and a current case rate (per capita) that is less than 1/10 the rate in the US or EU.  WTAF?

So much for those historical close ties from the Commonwealth days. Trudeau must have pissed off Boris in Cornwall.  ;D

Scotland is joining England in allowing vaccinated Americans to visit without taking a Covid test.
