RIP Perry Dye
« on: July 09, 2021, 02:35:42 PM »
My friend called and told me Perry passed away. I always enjoyed seeing him when I was visiting Bellerive. He was a nice guy and we enjoyed talking architecture together. His health had been failing recently. Rest in peace my friend.

Perry passed away Thursday, surrounded by family. Ann Dye is doing well and only said Perry had set-backs from recent treatments, yet was in great spirits last week and looking forward to the Ryder Cup. The Dye Family has been through a lot — we all need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Perry was so proud of his family's legacy. I recall him giving a fascinating peek into the family history at one of our ASGCA Annual Meetings. The images — many never seen before — showed just how passionate they were about golf and golf design.

It's indeed a tough day for the Dye family - especially following Alice's passing in '19 and Pete's in '20. Perry was my father-in-law and a genuine friend to so many architects, shapers, owners, developers and consultants around the world - truly amazing the impact he had on so many. He was generous with his time and talent - helping anyone he could either get into the game of golf or the golf business, never expecting anything in return.

Hopefully a few good Perry stories will emerge on this thread - there's certainly plenty of them to go around! I'll be sure to share them as appropriate with Ann and the girls since they don't visit GCA.

When Alice passed away, Perry suggested at her memorial that the best way to honor her was to get someone introduced (or reintroduced) to the game of golf - so I'd pass along that same advice in honor of Perry as well.
