Mine (and many others') fantasy involves the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Could built 20 courses and make it Bandon/Cabot/Whatever East...it's gorgeous land for golf, but also perfect as a natural area!
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Brad:

That, like Inch, is just a fantasy really.  I try not to spend a lot of time on things I know they won't let me build.  [The two projects that taught me that were Kilshannig in Ireland and Juliana in Napa County.  At least the second time I had enough experience to insist on being paid during the futile attempts at permitting!]

I remember 2 projects that were proposed but never built:

1. Wethersfield in Bucks County, PA. Jack Nicklaus was there for groundbreaking of his residential  course in a gated community. The course was never built as the developer was too busy building and selling houses. This happened in the early part of the 21st century.

2. A Pete Dye course in Ocean County, NJ was proposed for land on  a Sand & Gravel Company. The owner of the company changed his mind after fighting many delays generated by local opposition. I talked to Mr. Dye about the project. He was very enthusiastic.

Just read the old Doak thread and saw there was going to be another 18 at St. Andrews Beach.

Played the original on Wednesday morning, so it is fresh in my mind.... would have been a ripper, for sure.

Two other significant projects in California are,

The Fazio course on the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach.  In 1992 , the course called The Forrest course was supposed to sit on the old polo field which is now the equestrian field. It was approved by voters but again shot down by environmental groups.  The owners probably got a little greedy by adding 38 residential lots and various other housing and hotel additions to the measure.

I don't know much about it but there was a second course at Riviera.  I believe it was going to be located on the left side of the current 1st hole.

Its funny how many of the sites mentioned on this thread I looked at for golf - the Poconos project with the dentist, Wethersfield in Bucks County, PA, the Ocean County, NJ sand & gravel site.

I also visited Sebonack on a cold Thanksgiving weekend when the property was for sale - never had I seen such great LI Sound frontage and Tom did a great job on the design.

Bruce,
Is that the same one Gil Hanse and I looked?  Honestly we were not real impressed though more study was required.  What did you think?
