George did all the known MacDonald courses. Gibson is one of those.

If this is true, why did he leave out Downers Grove?

He didn't. He may not have done pages or drawings, but he did write about it for context.

Is there a copy of the first edition to be had somewhere for less than about $350? I'm willing, at some point, to spend more if I must, but if it's available somewhere for less than the $500+ that's available on Amazon, eBay, etc.… I'd love to get a copy.

Perhaps not exactly what you had in mind, but there are a few libraries that have copies available to check out as a temporary solution.  I was able to borrow a copy several years ago through the New York Public Library. I think they may not have owned the book themselves, but instead had to borrow it in turn from a university library.

ILL———inter-library loan.  This has afforded me access to books that are priced ridiculously high.

I would be first in line for a second edition, as I only had a 2 hour encounter with a copy in a hotel lobby. It was a wonderful and insightful read, until I was removed from the lobby for monopolizing space from the other guests (some hotels hate the image of young people around). So I would be very happy to purchase a new copy for less than the cost of my stereo system.
