Probably a residual carryforward from a childhood spent caddying, but I generally dislike when the 15th or 16th green sits too close to the clubhouse. It's a temptation to throw in the towel if weather or play are less than ideal, and can lead to awkward discussions of whether to carry on if a match ends 3&2 or 4&3.

I also enjoy the romance of courses where you steadily make your way towards the clubhouse during the last hour or so with a setting sun on your back.

There are always exceptions of course, and as previously mentioned, Example 1A would be the 15-18 loop at Cypress. I'll also put in a plug for the finishing loop at Tom Doak's new Gunnamatta course. 13-14-15 are tough uphill climbs back towards the National's clubhouse. But you're paid off with a beautiful view as you arrive onto the 16th tee and make the 90 degree turn back towards the Bass Strait. 15 green is far enough from the clubhouse, and the 16th and 17th are inviting enough holes, that you'd never consider walking in if a match finished early. Then just when you're done with the 17th, you realize you've fallen for the trap - and you've now got a long tough uphill 18th that finishes just below the clubhouse. One final chance at a well earned par that'll make the upcoming cold beer taste that much better.

Old Town Club provides a few options:

1 - 3
4 - 9
10, 11, 18

I live on the 16th fairway, so a good loop for me is 17, 12 - 16, OR 7, 8, 12 - 16 OR 14 - 16.

I love the "quick loop."

Old Town’s 1-3 loop is the perfect example of this. After you finish 3 you are practically at your car.

When I get the first tee time of the day at Chambers Bay, I’ll replay 12-14.  A chance to correct the errors on the uphill, driveable 12. Pull off the demanding second shot on 13.  And get an ego boost with the tee shot on 14.

Overlake in Bellevue, WA returns to the clubhouse after 3, 7, and 9.  Always that it was an ideal set-up for after work/evening play depending on the time available.

Bull's Bay back nine has 2 loops starting and ending at the clubhouse on the hill.
- holes 10 through 14
- holes 15 through 18

Not being a member or ever invited by one, but Prestwick's 16-18 has to be one of the top boozer loops going.

I think my favourite I have done is Kington 1 and 18 in suit and tie with street shoes and 1 club.

There's been many a one club on loops all over the world. Almost always a good time. My club of choice a 19 degree hybrid.

Some good ones in here  ;)  https://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,55174.0.html

Part of the requirement for this iteration of the Armchair Architecture Contest was having a "sunset loop."

Anyone want to start another? I would if I had the time right now...

14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 at Cape Wickham. Some spectacular holes. Gives you another chance to play 18.
