I was thinking Ross and Leeds too, but I don't know that much about who was who in Boston at the time. There was a fellow named Wendeler who was well contected with the USGA.
Whoever he was he was well versed on golf architecture, and very familiar with the theories of Fowler and Colt. It would be interesting if it were Ross, because 'Bunker Hill' wrote a monthly column for a number of years.
