What do you call it when a scratch player waves the white flag and doesn't finish the hole?
You're seemingly confusing one-off events with what regularly happens there. Willfully? Purposefully?

We've all seen good players triple bogey the easiest of holes… but that doesn't mean that's what they generally do on that hole.

These courses are meant to be brutal and pride themselves on it. If you told someone at Oakmont you thought they had easy bogey holes they would surely be offended.
Brutal doesn't mean a scratch player shoots over 90. Brutal can mean 18 "easy bogey" holes - with the rest being "hard par, nearly impossible birdie".

I think Oakmont members and players would be fine with the idea that their course has relatively "easy bogey" holes. You can play safely to get near the green, chip and two-putt pretty safely most of the time. If a good player's goal was to make 18 bogeys there, they could get around pretty easily in doing so.

It's that they try to make pars and birdies that cause the doubles.

Waving the white flag would not be against the rules but if he did not complete play on the hole he would concede it in match play or he would be disqualified in stroke play...

Nick - Is Mike not allowed to have an opinion just because he hasn’t played the course? Just trying to figure out how narrow minded you really are.

Long at The Old Course must be a hard bogey hole, because Nicklaus once took a 10 there. ;D

Dude, you never defined what an unfair hole was. You really have no credibility here, but then you may be beginning to realize that given the reaction you are getting from some of the stalwarts here. Time to take a time out and do a little self reflections, IF that is possible for you.

Garland,
My gut is that Ran let this character on here knowing it is one of the guys like JK or someone who would stir stuff...otherwise I don't know...
