Anyone for Stableford? ;)

Not so much. You got guis establishing handicaps making triples and not being penalized when a double pays the same. Stableford has been hijacked by clever baggers.

Don't blame people for being "baggers" when inadequacy of the handicap system is at fault.

It’s not even close as to preference for most amateurs , given the difficulty in grinding out stroke play scores. With the handicap system set the way it is you can play and post a score without really finishing.

Our group always paid a net winner in the throw away portion  so there was no picking up . If you really like the action this allowed you to play the whole field without having to go hole by hole with the card and adjustments. Your bet is your net .

It’s a tougher call for club championship events but always thought that match play makes more people interested and gives a chance for an upset 😢. The US Open identifies the best player in a different way.  We qualify stroke play then play match from there. It works !

Archie,
I have been a gross score player most of the time as I generally have little chance in net tournaments.  I still sometimes play in our President's Cup matches which are net but it is hard to win when you are one under par after 13 holes and still haven't won a hole against some 23 handicapper who is somehow only 6 over at that point  ::)   Again that doesn't always happen but I am always amazed at some of the net scores that get turned in  :o

Our reigning President's Cup Champion is a 2 course handicap.

There are clubs where a 0 to + have virtually no chance of winning a net "President's Cup" (a culture where sandbagging is tolerated) and clubs where they do (less sandbagging allowed/tolerated). I've been a member at both types of clubs and have won quite a few net tournaments over the years, but usually 2-man events with a final round of "aggregate stroke play," which plays into the low players' strengths.

Our reigning President's Cup Champion is a 2 course handicap.

I know a 2 that is a reinstated amateur. He stays a 2 because he can still play in USGA events. He wins a lot also.

If that's the case, then that guy is a straight up bagger. Would love to see his "regular index" versus a computed "tournament index."

I know a +1 to +2 who wins thousands(?) in net bets a month because he's really a +4 and rarely shoots outside a range of about 6 shots. Those guys definitely exist, no doubt.

The predominant game we played was points nassau, four ball match.  Lowest player becomes scratch, other hdcps adjusted appropriately.
Any hole winner of the two net low balls would get a point, any hole winner of the two higher net score ball would get a point. No carryovers. Usually $1-$1-$2 or variant with presses available at 2 down, more serious at 5-5-10.
