ANGC

Just too magical, too historic, too familiar, too elusive.

Mr. Tatum’s Sistine Chapel. Not even close. Maybe because I have walked Augusta so many times as a spectator...

I’ve played CPC and have walked ANGC. I was capable of playing CPC and have a feeling Augusta would overwhelm my modest game.

Let's see...both are "basically" Mackenzie courses...ok.

One is off of a strip mall laden commercial street in semi-rural Georgia.
The other is on the Pacific Ocean on the Monterrey Peninsula.

Let me think where I would rather be....

One is so elitist that only corporate CEOs and politicians get in and you can't even sniff a round there unless one of them takes you.
The other can be played "unaccompanied" on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before 8:30 am (if sponsored by a member.)

Let me think about that some more...;-)

For me, it's not even close.
CPC in 8/10 rounds.

If I had one round left it would be Tara Iti or Royal Melbourne.

What if your hypothetical answer, hypothetical as it may be leaves a virtual thumb print that with a quick google search could be found by the CPC or Augusta members that is thinking of inviting you and you have picked wrong  :'(

Personally I love them both and I'll cross that final round bridge when it comes.  ;D

I may just choose for playing in the cold, wind and rain on a soft wet and muddy course so that I can rejoice in how lucky I was to get to play on so many sunny days on fast and firm courses in life.

If an Augusta member googles this and finds that I picked Tara Iti or Royal Melbourne over ANGC, then so be it. I will take that chance. And this hypothetical situation asks for the LAST round you would ever play. I would want it in one of those destinations rather than Georgia.

My vote is Cypress.  No contest.  Never played or seen either, but played them in my mind many times.

Tim,

Augusta National (sort of)  I would like to experience the elevation changes, bold greens, and holes like 2,3, and 8 on the front nine. I've been fortunate to walk Cypress Point a few times.  Beyond the specific question you posed , given Augusta's alterations I would opt for Cypress 8-2, even if limited to playing CPC  holes one through fourteen !

On my personal bucket list works by Maxwell, Ross and Alison are slightly ahead of Augusta.  Old Town, Plymouth, and Davenport
capture my imagination.

Thanks for this interesting thread

I have played (very recently, in fact) Cypress Point Club--I have not played at Augusta.

While it would be a dream come true to play at Augusta, given 1 final round of golf, I would choose to play Cypress again. Why? Because I believe firmly that the natural beauty and meeting of ocean and earth at Cypress is so very moving that it is a place I'd like to spend my last moments doing something I love.

Now, I would request a different caddie, but that's splitting hairs!

Jeremy,

Interesting you mention that.  My caddie was the only negative I had in my one visit to CPC as well...

Kalen, yep, my only negative as well--they clearly were not interested in augmenting the experience, and although we played in less than 4 hours, our group felt very rushed by our caddies. I must say, however, that the golf professional staff were extremely welcoming.

You would be loosing out a ton on an unaccompanied 8.30 round at CPC vs. a full guest experience at ANGC. Even if you believe CPC is a better course, unless you get a full CPC invitation with members, the ANGC experience is better.
