Width anyone?

There are wide holes and then there's this:

I think we can call this template "Driving Range Hole".  An ideal opener, but this is actually the 8th on this particular course.
Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.

I once proposed and even promoted precisely such a template on here.

I realize now that I was mistaken in this, and also misguided.

The very idea of it now depresses me.

How could I be so wrong? Worse: about how many other topics might I still be (but unkowingly) equally misguided?

I put my hand over my mouth. I have spoken enough, I shall say no more.

Ideal opener? Maybe on paper and in theory.

Race to the course. No time for a warm-up. First shot of the day. Wide open target. No hazards. Remove the head cover from the Big Dog. Couple of rapid practice swings. Look down the fairway again. Still wide open. Still no hazards. Give it a big thrash. Top it. Fat it. Miss it. Toe it. Heel it. Sky it. Slice it. Snap-hook it. Infinite possibilities.

PS - in a different context Ian Baker Finch at TOC comes to mind.

and yet one bunker slap bang in the middle 230/240 off the tee would completely alter this hole.

It is none other than Tooth of the Dog Pound Creek GC in Cremona, AB Canada.  Really rolls of the tongue, but looks fun.  (I haven't ever played there just saw it on Instagram).
