That is the low scoring average in the Vardon Trophy race since WW2.  I believe the PGA tour roughs are lower this year to prevent lost balls (the spectators are good for something else). Will someone lower the record this year?

After Harbour Town Webb Simpson is at 68.346. This week he lowered his season average by 1/2 stroke. The winning Vardon average has been lower by only two players-Woods and Furyk.

From a statistical standpoint, thus far this season has been an anomaly.  Vardon averages are very much a function of which events one plays in.  If all you want is a low Vardon average, avoid the majors (especially US Open), the Memorial, and a few other events generally played on tough tracks...and focus on the Bob Hope Desert Classic, Harbor Town, etc. (be pleased to figure out current names for some of these events for you kiddies).

So this year it is past Father's Day and we have not had the originally scheduled Masters, US Open, Memorial, Players Championship or PGA  Championship because of COVID (to be fair PGA played this early only 1x previously in last 40+ years...2019).  Hence the low scoring averages across the board this year.
