Need a Friday and Saturday night in the NY area. We are dining at the Links Club on Friday and playing in the Mamaroneck area on  Saturday before moving towards Philly on Sunday.

I'm not keen on paying $400 a night for a room we will hardly see. Is there any decent accommodation between Central Park and Mamaroneck, say a $30 taxi fare to the club? That would leave us on the right side of the city for golf but easy access on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner.

Mark - your best bet is probably to stay somewhere between grand central and the upper east side and train up to mamaroneck on metro north and then taxi to the club. There is a ritz in white plains or a courtyard by Marriott in rye brook, but neither are that close to mamaroneck and are not convenient for your dinners. Hope that helps.

Anything in NYC is $100+ car to Saxon Woods or any of the Westchester PUBLIC courses

Uptown, cheap for NYC, but a decent walk or cab from Links Club and train stations (Grand Central and Harlem/125th to Winged Foot). Near East River. There are many car rentals in the neighborhood, but summer in the city could be hard on a Saturday to get one. Ask the concierge.

Reasonable, close to Grand Central if you decide to take the train to golf. Easy walk/subway to The Links. Contact me for access or check other hotels around Grand Central.

My advice on any would be to take a rental car or ask your hotel for car service to the club in the am. Then you can train it home if you want to save $$ but time is not so pressured after the round.

It has a terrific restaurant.

My club is located at 37th Street and Park Avenue within walking distance to Grand Central Station and has plenty of bedrooms. PM me with dates if you are interested and I will enquire regarding cost and availability.

It is a bit on the formal side but dress code relaxes during the summer and weekends.

There is also a garage on Third Ave with reasonable (for NYC) overnight rates.

There is a web site called hotel tonight that is great in NYC. You have to book the room that day but typically in NYC you save 50-60%. It seems to work well in NYC mostly because there are so many rooms in the city that unless there is a major event the occpuancy rate is never huge.

Thanks for all the advice, needless to say I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere that didn't require jacket and tie for breakfast!
