Western Wisconsin
« on: April 30, 2014, 05:30:01 PM »
So I have some travel planned in two weeks to the greater Chippewa Falls Wisconsin area as well as Clayton Iowa.  I know of the amazing golf courses on the eastern half of the state but I dont have time to venture too far off the beaten trail.  Any hidden architectural gems that you know of?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Eau Claire Country Club is reputed to be good.

Eau Claire CC is pretty decent. Wild Ridge is a very affordable public course just west of Eau Claire that has some good holes.

About 45 minutes north of Chippewa Falls is a place called Turtleback. I've never played there, but it has a good reputation.

Turtleback is not worth a 45 minute drive.  It is decent but i would not make a special trip to get there. Go to Rochester if you are going to make that kind of drive.

Anyone know La Crosse Country Club?

Sent you a PM.  IMO, the two best public courses in western Wisconsin are Troy Burne, and Big Fish, however both about an hour or more from Chippewa, although Troy Burne could be along the way dependent on your route to Iowa.     EC CC is decent, and the only private option in the area.  A course off the radar but a bit south is Drugan's Castle Mound on the north side of La Crosse.
