Fellow GCA members:

I'm Jon Cavalier from Philadelphia. When I'm not golfing, I'm a lawyer. As a long time reader of the boards, I'm very excited to finally be able to post here, and I'm looking forward to engaging in some great golf discussion.

A little about me: I'm a CB Macdonald/Seth Raynor junkie, and I'm currently in the middle of a quest to play all Macdonald and Raynor courses. I'm also a big fan of Charles Banks, and as a Philly native, William Flynn. Of the modern guys, I'm partial to Coore/Crenshaw and Tom Doak.

My favorite courses include Merion, Piping Rock, Creek Club, Yale, Fox Chapel, Sleepy Hollow and Oakmont (among the classics) and Streamsong, Kinloch, Black Diamond Ranch (Quarry), Shadow Creek and Dormie (among the moderns).

Thanks so much for having me here.

Bit welcome, Jon.

Hope you enjoy the debate!

Welcome Jon. We've got a CB here in St Louis. Let me know if you ever make it out this way.

They're having the Curtis Cup the first week of June.

Ryan -- thanks.  I am very aware of the gorgeous CB that you have over at St. Louis CC, and its high on my list.  I will be in Cincy for a few days this weekend, and I was actually thinking of making the drive down and back to play it one day -- alas, its just too short a trip to spend 10 hours in the car.  But when I make it out there eventually, I will definitely drop you a line.

Welcome Jon.  Where do you play most of your golf in Philly?

Welcome, Jon! (See that comma, everyone? Use it!)

We have three Raynors here in the Twin Cities, one of which is my home course (Midland Hills -- along with Somerset and Minnesota Valley). Visit anytime.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

MV - I'm a member at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, but I probably play less than 20% of my rounds there. I like variety, and I love playing courses that I haven't before. I've played almost everything between Baltimore and Newark. I also travel a lot, so I play out of town a great deal.

Dan: those Raynors are also on my list. I may be in that area later this year. If I am, I'll drop you a line.

Bill - and Merion, of course.

John!  You"re, welcome. ;D

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Funny one, Dick.

Amazing how quickly all of those editing marks became obsolete. Nowadays, we just fix the errors ourselves, rather than directing others (who no longer work here) to fix them.

Jon,

You are welcome to play my renovation of Banks' Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club in VA Beach.  Should be high on your list because of your name.  You have obviously seen my work at DuPont.

Lester since nobody else seemed to catch that awesome wordplay, I'll take upon myself to give you the golf clap on that one ;)

Bill - and Merion, of course.

Jon, I'm pretty careful what I post. :) But if you don't get the joke, you really are a newbie and we'll leave well enough alone! Welcome!

Bill: as a long time lurker, I'm well aware of the previous "debates" about the provenance of Merion. For what it's worth, the par 3 3rd redan is enough to convince me that Macdonald had at least some influence. The extent of that influence will remain a mystery for now, but based on what my own eyes tell me, what I've heard from the club's archivist, and what I've read on this site, let's just say I agree with your original comment.
