Ocean Dunes, King Island

I came across Ocean Dunes wesite the other day! www.oceandunes.com.au     I haven't heard about this project before, does anybody know anything about it?
Looks like a great site, but King Island is very remote.

Andrew,

Remote it is but, for the Aussie, King Island is already a very well-established holiday destination due to its scenery and extraordinarily fine food. A quality golf course would make me go there in a flash. I reckon that this sort of venture in golf would succeed ... literally as well as metaphorically a captive audience. TI didn't know about it so thanks for bringing it to the table and I will follow its progress with interest.

I guess it's no more out of the way then Barnbougle is, could make a nice round trip! If you could fly direct from King Island to Barnbougle.

Andrew I think one of the key drivers (from the outside) is Barnbougle, in that the only way to get to KI is by charter flight, so that many will then continue on to Barnbougle - at least that is how they should market it.

We have a trip of 8 going down to Barnbougle with Vortex Air in May - we are going via King Island, play 18 holes at existing 9 holer, have lunch at the pub, and then continue on to Barnbougle - it is almost on the way, and adds little to the cost of getting to BD. ( we are also hoping to get a look at the site for OD preconstruction)

You can get to King Island from Melbourne's Tullamarine airport in about 35 mins on Rex Air.
Once on the island this Ocean Dunes site is pretty close to the airport.
Cape Wickham on the northern tip is about a 35 minute drive.
The place is full of awesome golf sites including the existing nine holer run solely from volunteers.
My guess is if one happens it could get a few more pretty quickly.
Oh and the beef, the cheese and the crayfish is out of this world. Expect to put on a few pounds.

Any news on this project?

The website shows some grow-in on #1 and #4. Seems like Cape Wickham will be first to open. If Ocean Dunes proceeds, it will be a pretty nice stop on the way to Barnbougle. 45 holes with plenty of ocean views!!!
