First, I hope #15 stays "as is".  It was almost as unputtable as #12 and, now, it is still no slouch - but quite do-able unless you are over the green or on the back fringe (which is as it should be, IMO).

Second, if the left rough on #5 is going to be shaved down to the creek UP BY THE GREEN, I will really spend some time watching that - assuming that firm and fast is operative.  My opinion about it will depend entirely on what I see.

I know "those guys are good" but, if putting into a hazard is a possibility, they better be REALLY good.

Thanks Powell. That is an interesting expectation that spectators will be happy to find their choice of bleachers and camp out. Granted it is on the smallest tract of land in the US Open rota but people certainly like to roam around. I wonder if staff/volunteers will be recommending same to spectators?

Well, with five thousand volunteers (and a waiting list of two thousand), each volunteer only needs to corral Bausch and four others!

I am working 15, I will gladly volunteer to rein in Joe and a few GCA guys.  No morons need apply.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

A very interesting byproduct of the US Open prep: Merion will be hosting Golf Assoc of Phila team matches this April for all three weeks of the GAP matches. Their matches on the East course will be played with players required to hit off of mats in the fairways. Some consideration was given to playing only away matches this year, but in the end home-off-mats prevailed.

Question, is there an official USGA or R&A local rule for hitting off mats?

It was a question after the presentation, but my impression from the answer was that there was not a rule to follow other than common sense, and a major factor in the decision to play at home was to give the opposing GAP teams a chance to play the course just months before the US Open.
