Malmo & South Sweden
« on: January 20, 2013, 11:10:56 AM »
The EIGCA are heading to Malmo for their AGM in April.... Golf is at Falsterbo and Ljunghusen...

I'm arriving a day earlier and thought I might try another round....

It appears to me the best options are:

Baresback Masters
Flommens
PGA National (2 courses by Kyle Philips)

Has anyone enough experience of the area to give me the proper lowdown? Thanks...

IMO the Institute are going to the two best (though I still think they are brave/crazy to go quite so early in the year). I'd go PGA National Links for preference, although the new TC at Vasatorps is pretty good (an hour or so north of Malmo). Some interesting options across the bridge in Copenhagen too.

Ally,
Ljunghusen and Falsterbo are probably the two courses that  people on here would like best in the region. There are LOTS of courses within an hours drive. Barsebäck is high on most peoples list but i've heard mixed things about the new PGA courses. Also consider Rya or Mölle which is further north. A course i haven't seen but hope to visit is Elisefarm GC and closer to Göteborg (>3h drive) Sand and Hills golf Clubs.

If you decide to take the bridge to Denmark, i might be able to show you around, although my time away from home will be limited from early March

I wrote this about Københavns golf klub, a special experience (beware, not Royal Golf which is also in Copenhagen)

That course is best in the spring, before the rough starts to get ridiculous. (~1H drive).

Anders,

Thanks so much - From the photos, I am in no doubt that this is the answer - it looks fantastic.

I fly in to Copenhagen on the evening of Monday 22nd April... we kick off at 14.30 in Malmo on the Tuesday 23rd so I'd need to be playing early that morning.

Would be great to meet if you are there. Will probably contact a few of the other guys to see if anyone is interested (presuming I can get a time).

Thanks again,
Ally

Ally,
Getting a tee-time/tee-times should be no problem at all, this goes for all of Denmark. (And Sweden). I'm farly sure it's walking only, don't know whether thats an issue for anyone in your group?

I live in Copenhagen and if you decide to play there i will make it work if I'm at home. You should consider asking the club whether the Superintendent (his title is Chief Greenkeeper, as everywhere here), Martin Nilsson, would have time for a 15min chat. We have some very tough environmental regulation here, maybe the toughest in the world ( i don't know, but wouldn't be surprised) and i believe that Martin is considered as one of the top-guys within his field. I've been told that what they do here is quite special/oldschool, but again i'm not an expert.

I've met him cassually a couple of times when playing there and he seems very eager to tell about it if he has the time.

Also, if you need any other advice, Hotels, restaurant, golf etc. don't hessitate to ask.
