So who is heading up to St Andrews?
« on: November 27, 2012, 05:18:00 PM »
I was thinking about heading over to St Andrews later in the week to make my feelings on the course changes known.

Who has already headed up or is planning on heading up soon?

What is the plan of attack? Letter box drops? Placards? Passive resistance?

What are the Scottish laws on protesting?

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

Isn't it just a little embarrassing in the Internet age to be coming to this party so late?  Just accept your loss as a good golfer should.

Kind of tough to get attention as a single person...How about placing 50 or so life-sized posters/placards of Old Tom Morris all around the various worksites?

I'm planning on a visit this weekend.

I'll be the man in the dressing gown lying in front of the bulldozers waiting for my Betelgeusean friend to arrive...bloody Vogons!

from Australia?

Yeah, it's about 30 hours to St Andrews but we are 10 hours ahead.

Would prefer not to, but do not trust the Brits to get things happening.

I wasn't alive for the second world war but I am starting to understand how Hitler was allowed to move through Europe.

I suspect the battle for St Andrews will go the same way - British inaction, Commonwealth countries thrown on to the front line, American's come in and save the day.  ;)

Bill,

I rang up the St Andrews Links shop.  Apparently all their Old Tom Morris cut-outs were sold to this man.

Actually, do we have anyone who knows David Joy well enough to ask him to join in???

I was tempted to go up there yesterday ... I was at The Renaissance Club, but on my way to Abu Dhabi and then China.

I want this protest to continue, but I didn't want to turn it into a circus ... what I don't want is for it to look like I'm trying to get my name in the papers.  But I am still waiting for others to speak strongly, so I'll continue to talk until someone else takes a turn.

This is where dear old Melvyn should be at the forefront. He'd be mad because the course is being changed, and my jove, they're using men running powered equipment to do so, not men with shovels and mules.

I'm with you in spirit. A little tough to just scoot over from the States.

Tom I can appreciate that you don't want to be seen as if you are using this to boost your own standing or even that you are pitching for work.  However for years I've been waiting for some of the famous names in golf to do more than murmur their disapproval of changes to the game.

This is the moment and the public responds to leaders.  You have a groundswell of support here and I urge you to take this as far as you can. So far you’ve been clear in your thoughts about the issues and what needs to be done, carry on but realise that this window to raise the issue will soon close. My interpretation of those photo’s  is they are using two sets of machines, one on 17 and one on 11 to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible. Later today they have a press conference about belly putters and it will distract from these changes.  Call all right minded golfers to action now.
Let's make GCA grate again!

I think that cultural reference may not be universally understood. Do remember to get a receipt when you go to the bathroom, just in case.
