OK, so this isn't a course that you're ever going to hear about on any lists of top-x or best-y.  Heck, I'd driven by the golf course probably 50 times on the way to my home club and had never made the effort to play it.

But, thanks to Mr. Arble and his profiles of some of the lesser-known and more-quirky golf courses of the United Kingdom, when I saw the following from the road I literally hit the brakes and turned around.

If not for GCA or Sean I would never have made the time to see Bracebridge; and that would have been a mistake.  The 8th hole is one of the coolest and quirkiest I have seen anywhere.

There was plenty of other good stuff to keep my interest for a couple of hours.

Thanks Sean!

Really cool! Great terrain, with lots of unconventional approaches to the hole layouts -- interesting choices on the routing.

I played here many times as a kid, and always considered that fifth green unplayable. Now I know it's actually a laudable example of quirk. Nicely done!

(Now, if you REALLY want quirk, put some beers in your bag and go find Milford Manor.)

Whats this?  Singled out for kudos by the what I can only surmise is the second most (surely B Sheehy takes the cake) intrepid golf traveller of these many months?  You are most welcome.  Believe me, I get more pleasure from playing these wee wunders than you get from reading about them.

I really like the look of the 6th - including the mini plateaux green.  Is there any advantage to driving right of the water?

Nicely done, Mark, as always - and my thanks for all the great profiles. I'm glad Sean's influence (re 'minor' courses) has rubbed off, and I see that the homage continues in your use of words, i.e. "a cracking" good hole is vintage Arble!!

The designer is undoubtedly Willie Park Jr., circa 1901  ;D

Jokes aside, it does look like an interesting property for golf. Thanks, Mark.

And god bless Mr. Anonymous, a humble servant toiling away in the far off lands, making the best (or the best he knows how) of whatever land Nature has deemed to grace him with -- bringing joy to many through his labours, but nary a penny or a reputation for himself. Another reason to want to believe in Heaven -- some place where we can express our gratitude to all those we'll never meet in life.

Guy, after playing up at Lake Joseph the other day I took a quick detour to check out Milford Manor on the way home.  I didn't have time to pay but it looks like some good fun.  Based on the 50-year-old looking sign outside I don't think the price has changed in a while: Adults $12, Kids $5.

Jeff, I you are ever interested in heading to Bigwin let me know; I don't know what kind of access you have but I may be able to get us out to Bracebridge too.

Sheehy certainly takes the cake.  While I have been fortunate too see many new golf courses over the past year, they have all been in the United States (not that I'm complaining); Brian travels willy-nilly across the Atlantic like it's crossing from the Canada into the US at the Ambassador Bridge.

Driving right of the water on 6 would not be advantageous and one would only find themselves over there by accident.

Not pictured is the par-3 7th with what could be an unbelievable skyline green, if not for a single fir tree behind the green (damn green committee  >:()

I don't think I ever paid more than $5, although it's been about 15 years. I once hit the second green with a putter, and the ninth is the only hole I can remember playing with a greater-than-90-degree dogleg. Wedge-wedge.

Thanks.

Do you have pix of the par 3?

Guy, I took the detour today after playing Port Carling.  First course I've ever played with the drop-box form of payment.

How about that 7th hole? 275 yard par-5 and I hit 5 quality shots to make 5 there!

You didn't have time to pay? You snuck on and gypped them out of a green fee? For shame.

Are the remains of a distillery on site? This might be Seamus Macduff's lost property...

;D Freudian slip? I did pay today, but green fee was $12 and I only had a $10 and a $50.  When I'm by next time I'll slip them a toonie.
