PGA Tour at Hamilton this week - a Colt course
« on: July 25, 2012, 07:55:33 PM »
This week on the PGATour is the Canadian Open which is back at Hamilton G&CC in Ancaster, Ontario for the 3rd time in the last dozen years.  This is a Colt course designed in 1914 although there have been substantial changes since that time.  At least it is nice to see this event at a classic course rather than just being played at Glen Abbey every year.

Unfortunately, it returns to Glen Abbey next year. Great though that Ernie Els made it to this event after the Open win. I just wish the PGA could get this historic tourney a better date. Maybe RBC should start throwing its weight around a little since they are now the PGA's second largest sponsor.

Thompson golf holes were created to look as if they had always been there and were always meant to be there.

That's very true but the deal that the RCGA made with Clublink when they sold them the Abbey called for bringing the Open back every once in a while for the first decade - or something like that.  The question is where else would they go in Toronto?  They could do St George's again but that isn't easy due to all of the logistical hassles.  Hopefully they won't go back to Angus Glen since it is even inferior to the Abbey.

There is talk of other places, like Coppinwood, but that would also be a bit logistically tricky.  They can't go to the National due to the lack of female members.  It would be really cool if they went to Devil's Paintbrush.
