Dead courses in Michigan?
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:17:59 AM »
I flew from Detroit to Grand Rapids a week ago and saw what I thought were the bones of three dead courses.  One seemed just west of DTW, another around what I think is Lansing and the last on the eastern edge of Grand Rapids.  They looked dead because what appeared to be bunkers had no sand and the courses looked unkempt.  Outlines of greens and fairways were visible.  It was very depressing.  Did I see what I thought i saw or was I delusional?

I don't know about those courses in Michigan but there are several courses like that around Houston and I don't even like driving past them, it's kind of depressing.

Tommy,

The city of Lansing closed some of its muni courses in recent years so it could be that's what you saw.  I'd have to know whether you were on the north or south side and how close to the city you got to make any other guesses.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

So, JC, you want to get some more of the facts before you throw out your opinion? Novel approach!

JC I think I was a little south and west of Lansing.  Did you play in the MM member/guest?

JC I think I was a little south and west of Lansing.  Did you play in the MM member/guest?

Lansing closed most of its muni's a few years ago, one of which was the 18 hole Waverly golf course that is west of downtown and another is Red Cedar which was more south.  Also, southwest of the city, a 9 hole course called the Players Club (a golf course, not the type of establishment where you can find Keith) closed a while back.

On the east side, a 9 hole course called Four Winds closed about 10 years ago but you can still see some of the bones.  Somehow, public golf around Lansing is still somewhat alive.  The 2 country clubs though, very much struggling.

I did not play in the member/guest.  I've only played 5 rounds of golf this year and haven't been to the Mill since January.  I need you to come down to get me over there!!
