Hello,

My name is Diederik Visser. I am playing golf for 2 years and becoming more and more interested in golf course architecture. I live in Noordwijk in the Netherlands. My homecourse is the Noordwijkse GC. This year I will try to play as many classic courses at the european continent as possible.

I am verry happy to be a member at this forum and I hope to get a bettter understanding of golf course architecture.

Cheers,

Diederik

Diederik

Most welcome, look forward to hearing your views of our great little game of golf - that's the walking game of golf ;)

Brian,
I am planning a visit to Scotland in September or October. After my visit to scotland I will be able to compare the Dutch links courses with the links courses in Scotland.

Melvyn,
I think walking is an integral part of the game.

Welkom op GCA !

Four questions:
1. Can't the trees be removed from the course, particularly the inland holes ? Environmental arguments ring hollow considering the totally degraded property next door. Tragic !

2. Speaking of that property, do members look longingly next door at what could be, and do you see 'what could be' becoming 'what is' ?

3. Is your clubhouse the world's best modern -- wait, instead: what other public / group spaces in the Netherlands offer comparable warmth and do such a great job of bringing the outside inside ? Bonus question: do you ever retreat to the corner of the main room, order a hot chocolate, and, as we say in America, open up a can of Tiger Woods '12 whoop ass on the tender youth of Holland?

4. Can you share pics of the nearby beach, preferably from a warm and sunny Saturday?

Mark,

I don't see a complete tree removal happening in the near future. There are some changes planned, such as moving the first hole more towards the beach. This will lead to room to expand the driving range and make it less visible from the clubhouse. The green of the eleventh will be moved some thirty meters back and to the left. Therefore trees need to be removed. The short twelfth will also be changed. It's not easy to get a permit for these changes. I don't see an expansion into the nearby property happening.

I totally agree with your opinion about the clubhouse. I believe it's quite an unique place in the Netherlands.

I will take a look at the beach in the spring. I am living whole my life in Noordwijk yet it's quite long ago when I visited that part of our coastline.

Nice to have you on board diederik. A few years ago some of us played de pan/noordewijk/kennemer and royal Hague - what a great collection of courses. I think these are probably the least known good courses in Europe.

Diederik,

Welcome to GCA. I have thoroughly enjoyed this site and have learnt a lot. There is an abundance of info in the In My Opinion pieces, Feature Interviews and Courses by Country segments. The course pictorials by Kyle Henderson and Sean Arble, to name just a couple, are well worth seeking out.
As to Anthony's contentious question my take is simple. When the gowf is good it is an invention of The Scots when things turn sour The Dutch must bear a heavy responsibility!

Cheers from a wayward Scot,

Colin

Welcome Diederik,

I visited your course a few years back.  In my bit of golfing travel, I have yet to recieve such a warm welcome from members.
First off, I loved the course, and couldn't believe it wasn't in the British Isles.  There are some massive dunes on the property, and all around it as well!  Then when I finished my fiancee and I had a drink in the clubhouse and were invited to join some of the members.  We had such a good time that I'll not soon forget it.  If you know him, say hello to Pitt, and thank him for the great welcome!  I hope to get back again soon.
