What I can never remember: Real-estate courses that cross roads and head this way and that. I can usually remember some holes, but NEVER the overall layout.

Pete,
This friend of a friend of yours.....sounds as though he and I would get along just fine!

As to how the likes of us muddle through. Well I found my way to Australia from Scotland as a callow youth. That wasn't a bad bit of muddlin'.  Great golf 12 months a year!

Cheers Colin

I have a fair memory of golf courses.  I can't recall an exact hole from memory, but I can count back or forward to it from a prominent hole and then recall it.  Remembering holes is partly why I detest 27 hole set-ups. I have a hard time working from 9s.

Ciao

Whenever possible I buy a yardage guide (Strokesaver in the UK).   I use them to help reconstruct courses in my mind after the fact.   It's really nice when I go back to play a course again and find the guide in my collection!

I'm afraid that whenever I buy a course yardage guide, I forget about the purchase until my return trip to the course. There I stand in the pro shop thinking: "Didn't I buy a yardage guide last time?"

It's a bitter cycle of forgetfullness.

Been there too!    ;D

Mine's pretty good.

I will say I've got a pretty amazing memory for holes that I have yet to play  ;)

I am spotty with hole numbers and routings although I am better with remembering individual holes. Seem to remember the first few going out and the last few coming in by number and routing. I seem to forget the sequence and routing in the middle until after 3 or 4 plays. The more memorable the holes are as a collection the better my memory seems to work.
