I'm driving up to my National Club this afternoon. It's 4 1/4 hours from my office (4 3/4 from home), and that's without traffic, construction delays or stops. Just looked at the weather forecast for tomorrow. High of 50 degrees with winds gusting to 25 mph. No rain and Sunday looks much better, so no biggie. Don't get me wrong, I've played in much worse conditions, but it got me thinking. What's the most you've traveled, or would travel, to play a great course in crap weather?. I've driven 2 hours each way to play 27 at Lost Dunes in 41 degree weather with rain.
I've played in 60 mph gale force winds and rain at Turnberry, but that doesn't really count as the weather was great for the rest of the trip. The point is length and time of door-to-door travel vs. quality of course, number of rounds and crap weather. Who's got the best story about traveling half-way round the world, missing connections, losing your clubs and luggage to play 1 round at a famous course only to have it washed out?
