Terrific article...I know Joe Bausch found a lot about McDermott in his research.

I recall a piece some years back where the author took McDermott in his later years out of the hospital to play some golf at the now defunct Valley Forge GC.

Evidently, he was still very able although erratic, both mentally and physically.

Thanks for the article.  Just yesterday I had lunch with a friend who caddied for John McDermott at Jeffersonville G.C.  He recalled how John's sisters would pick him up at the nearby hospital and get him to the course via Radio Cab.  My friend told us that Mr. McDermott had old equipment but would hit the ball from any lie.  Didn't want anyone near his ball.  He didn't talk but would make some interesting grunts etc. if a putt was close or would go in.   Very interesting.
