RIP Seve, a master in golf and a "Most Interesting Man"...

What a short game! I think of Seve every time I go into a bunker--he kept his hands very low for bunker shots, which really works.

Golf has lost one of the all-time, great magicians and entertainers in the game. No one I've ever seen had the ability to pull off the unreal more often than Seve. At his best, he surely is in the top handful of the toughest competitors in the modern golf era.

He was a complicated guy, with a lot more layers to him than he revealed, but he had a deep affection for the game few professionals could match. He was Europe's version of Arnie, although for increasing golf's popularity worldwide, Seve gets the nod. He really made that Ryder Cup competitive and infused that zeal and spirit in other players from Europe.

For him to be gone at 54, wow, almost cruel that a man with that much joy for living and brimming wiith vitality in his prime, has given his last. I hope the game honors him in establishing something of meaningfull significance in his memory. He often would speak about his youth, and the love he found for golf in those early days, with tremendous passion. Something to help youngsters find golf of a non-corporate nature would seem fiitting.

Rest in peace Seve, you gave much to be remembered and will certainly be missed.

"I said in a talk at the Dunhill Tournament in St. Andrews a few years back that I thought any of the caddies I'd had that week would probably make a good golf course architect. We all want to ask golfers of all abilities to get more out of their games -caddies do that for a living." T.Doak

Though the circumstances are different this is certainly the saddest day in golf since we lost Payne Stewart. Seve was a true champion; the reason the Ryder Cup still exists and the most wonderfully competitive player to watch plot his way around a golf course.

Someone help me recall this, because when Seve was in his prime I was only between 10-15. I remember a Ryder Cup where either Jose-Maria had stuffed a shot into a par-5 (maybe a couple feet) or it was his competitor. I want to say he was playing against Azinger. Anyway, Seve has about 75 yards in and he walks it off, has the ball marked and his caddie tend the pin. I'm pretty sure it was at The Belfry. Just classically competitive Seve. Anyway....

A while back, I received the book: Seve, Ryder Cup Hero by Lauren St. John as a gift. I've not read it, but now going to dive into it. I hope Seve gets a chance to have a mulligan 4-iron in heaven today that doesn't go in the water. Rest in peace.

Will we ever see guys like this on tour again? Someone who's original, who doesn't have a cookie cutter game and isn't afraid to speak his mind to the media?

Very sad.  His brilliance and artistry easily overcame his several blemishes.  Though Nicklaus is my hero, I was rooting for Seve in '86.  May his family and millions of fans take some solace form the prospect that he is in a more peaceful, comfortable place.

His artistry could extend into the pressroom.  Dan Jenkins always enjoyed writing about Seve's comments including this one.  Players are often asked to describe experiences in their rounds.  Someone asked Seve to describe his 4 putt.  With his Spanish accent he replied.

"I miss, I miss, I miss, I make."
It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Sad news indeed. Thanks for all the stories, everyone.

What he did for the European Ryder Cup team is astonishing both as a player and a mentor to the younger players who all wanted to win for Europe but also for Seve. As a competitor he was the ultimate gamer. He was the perfect foil for the American`s but I always loved his spirit even though he was leading the charge for the other side. RIP Seve-I love you man.

I feel as there are very few giants of the game. But Seve was clearly one. RIP.

It was very sad news when I heard on the radio this morning that Seve had passed last night.

I was in high school and a caddie when Seve began winning majors and he was always my favorite golfer.

I was very fortunate to see him play a practice round at The Country Club at the 1988 US Open the day after he won at Westchester.  The excitement and energy as he went around that course that afternoon was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced on a golf course.

When I was younger I actually sent a letter to him.  The only letter I ever sent to a famous person in my life.  I received a personalized autographed photo in the mail from Spain a few months letter.  It is one of only two autographs I ever kept.

As I thought of Seve this day I thought that I doubt that he every played a round of golf as if it was a job.  I am sure that there must have been many rounds in which the travel made it unenjoyable.  But I doubt if he ever felt the way a desk job feels to many of us on some days.  It seems that it can be easy for many pros to just go about their business on some days during ordinary tournements when out of the hunt for victory that week.  But even when Seve had looks of frustration, it still seemed as if the passion continued to see how he could pull off conquering the course that day.

God bless you Seve.

Good bye to a great competitor, Champion, the best short creator ever.  He to me was the greatest European golfer of his time and maybe all time. He is joining the best ever in the great 4some in the sky.
