Color of Money not such a great movie?  Baloney.

I liked the older Fast Eddie better than the young one.

The famous line from the end of the film about not worrying if he got him in Atlantic City or Dallas or wherever sums up the "it" factor of sports, because as Eddie told us, he was back.

I'm interested to see how many sports do not involve direct, physical contact or direct competition against the opponent (where one player's action, as in non-contact sports like tennis, table-tennis, volleyball, squash, raquetball, overcomes the opponent.)

There are a number of sports that don't involve physical contact with a human opponent.

Golf, however, is one of the few sports played with a ball in which the ball is not contested by competitors. Bowling is similar in that regard.

Which means that control of your ball is between you and a golf course, not between you and another human.

But unlike bowling where lane dimensions are set by rule, golf courses can be literally anything with 18 holes.

Which is why the design of golf courses is so important to golf.

Also ask yourself if you think teeing off first or last matters in competition. Or even worse, golf is the rare sport where your opponent gives you reads on the field of play that are of great benefit. It is why the most skilled player hits last in a scramble.

Motorcycle trials riding.  'Courses' have many different sections, each is unique and has all kinds of hazards laying about. You go through each section alone and performance scores points.

I did this a bit in the early 1970s, until I realized that all the winners weren't 200 pounds and 6'2.  :D

The bikes today are  almost unrecognizable, they're 100 pounds lighter and built with exotic materials , carry less than a gallon of gas, some have no seats, and the tires are stickier than Odell's gloves.

Ed: More sedate sport: Figure skating - no luck with that one either, too dizzy.

Motorcycle trails racing is the most ridiculous trophy giving sport of all time. Why so tall and why so many?

Ron -

Tiger Woods would occasionally stand close to an opponent who was putting, and he would sometimes go with a three-wood and then take forever to hit first in order to slow someone's momentum. He would putt out first and cause a stampede to the next tee while his opponent was cleaning up.

You can annoy your opponent at any time by engaging in prolonged conversation or by asking him to mark his ball. And look at all the fuss that his been made recently about one's "through line" getting trampled, which is certainly not mentioned in the etiquette section of the rules. All of these are direct actions against the opponent. I could go on. John Kavanaugh is correct as usual.
