I have played Glen Arven many times. I echo Mike's sentiments - fantastic and charming place. Try the fried quail and grits if you EVER get the chance.
As for the golf course, it's become a little outdated (essentially the same layout that Stiles and Van Cleek produced in the late 19th century - don't have Sidney's great book in front of me). The land has great movement, and the course has plenty of quirk. Some fantastic mid-length par-4s, and a wonderful collection of 3s. The par-5s have largely fallen prey to technology. The uphill 9th is a great hole. The par-5 18th also plays up to the clubhouse, and I understand there has been some work on it recently.
My oldest and best friend is a member at Glen Arven, and it's a place I could play golf everyday.
