Sedgefield CC

Just had the great pleasure of playing Sedgefield CC... the first Ross design that I have played... and I was blown away.  When a course lays dormant and a 1/3 of the round is played in the rain... and the course still ranks as one of the best you have ever played, that says a lot.
I was totally unfamiliar with the course prior to playing and curious to know if others here have also had the pleasure and their thoughts... is the course very much like Ross' others and how does this rank amongst them.

Definitely be tuning in to the Tour stop there this year to re-live the round.

Mike, Sedgefield is a very solid course that I like quite a bit.  However, it is also far from Ross' best in my opinion.  Of the 20 or so Ross courses I've played, I'd say it's somewhere in the middle of the pack.  That shouldn't be taken as an indictment of Sedgefield, but rather a testament to Ross' skill.  I'm no Ross expert.  But for me Sedgefield is representative of his work in some respects and very different from the norm in other respects.  The biggest thing is that it is a residential course weaving its way through a subvivision with houses (and often OB) on both sides.  Also, Ross used canted slopes at Sedgefield in ways that I don't recall seeing much on his other designs.  Very reminiscent of some of Flynn's work in my opinion.  Based on some comments Kris Spence has made, I wouldn't be surprised if this was at least in part a by product of designing within a residential subdivision.  FYI, here are a couple of links to previous threads touching on these points...
