Way OT- is Vijay not an Asian?
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:18:45 PM »
but what's up with all the 'first Asian' to win a major. Vijay is a Fijian of Indian extraction. Definitely Asian on both counts.

Just wondering

Because whent they say "Asian" they are just looking for a PC way to say "Oriental".

I think that Fiji is technically part of "Oceania"...which if you must specify a continent goes along with Australia/New Zealand..etc... and not Asia.

By the way, they were wrong. Yang is the first MALE Asian to win a major...

If we want to look at lineage, Tiger would have fit this mold long ago as he is half Asian.

As for Vijay he is a Pacific Islander so that wouldn't put him in the Asian category.

Either way, who really freaking cares....YE gave Tiger the business yesterday and stepped on his throat on #18...epic stuff!!

I was married to a girl from Fiji and I was not a major winner.

Could not agree with you more Kalen!  YE was solid yesterday.  After his second shot from the trees and over the water on #7 (I think), his confidence just grew.  YE went out and took away this major from Tiger.

Yang played great.  But Tiger shot 75.  That is why he lost.

Jim,

Do you think Tiger shoots that same 75 if Yang shoots 80?

So Bart, does that mean Vijay is an Oceanian? If so, COOL!

Since I have never really been on a first name basis with Americus Vespucci I prefer to call myself a Vespuccian.

PS:
Does anyone on here have Tiger's cell phone number? If so I'd like you to give it to me so I can call him just to check what kind of mood he's in today.

Honestly, I would bet cash money that he (1) would not answer his cell phone because he's on the putting green at home practicing 10 footer after 10 footer until his arms fall off and (2) even if you did get him on the phone, judging from his slight smile upon Yang's sunk birdie putt on 18, he'd be relieved........just one more brick of pressure to maintain an astounding streak that he can now shrug off his shoulders.

JSP:

Good point and that might mean we can now expect Woods to go on some renewed tear and win maybe the next seventeen tournaments in a row or whatever.

"I was married to a girl from Fiji and I was not a major winner."

Anthony:

Can you be sure about that? Why don't you give the term "major winner" to our resident word parsers on here and who knows, maybe you will find under one interpretation you really are a "major winner."
