Ocean Course/Charleston
« on: May 13, 2009, 09:49:33 AM »
Hey guys.  I am going on a wedding planning/golf trip to Charleston with my fiance's family next week.  I wanted to take my future father-in-law to go play the Ocean Course, but was wondering if it is resort only, or if there was any other way to get on.  Aside from that, what are some of the better courses down there that we could play?  Thanks.

Chris-

The Ocean Course is public, but you will pay the premium rate for not staying at the resort (I'm assuming you're not).

TOC would certainly score some major brownie points with the father-in-law as it really is a fantastic course and place to play. Expensive sure, but worth it to me to at least see once, exp. if you are right in the area.

I can't speak for many other publics outside of Kiawah Island, but it seems the best place to be if golf is on the docket.

Have fun!

Chris,

I would make the effort to play The Ocean Course.  You may spend a little more, but to me there is more value there than what most of the other publics in the area charge.

Non-resort guest green fees on The Ocean Course this time of year are $360.  The course is walking-only until noon tee times.  We offer caddies with no "caddie fee," however, they do accept gratuities -- suggested $65+ a bag.  If you're staying on the resort, the green fees are $307.  They drop to summer rates ($273/$232) June 1.

Mike, Are your caddies paid employees?
