Royal Duff House

Here is a photo of #1 green at Duff House Royal.  #1 green is shored with # 17 the only double green on this fun course in Banff.  It boasts 18 original Mackenzie greens.  All the greens have significant slopes and tiers.
They were very well maintained and really challenging to putt.  This is a course on which you probably won't lose a ball.  You  will probably shoot near or under your handicap.  And you will enjoy it as a nice day of no pressure golf between playing the big name courses in the north.

Stan -

I have always been intrigued by Duff House Royal and am hoping to play it one of these summers. It is just a little too far from Dornoch for a day trip.

How far is the course from the ocean? Does the river come into play on any of the holes?

For those culturally inclined, Duff House is a grand country house adjacent to the course that is affiliated with the National Galleries of Scotland.

P.S. Isn't the course officially known as Duff House Royal?

David,
You are correct it is Duff House Royal.
It is on the inland side of the highway so the sea is not in play or visible. The river is in ply on a couple of holes most notably #16, a strong 200 ish  par 3.

Stan:

Duff House Royal was on my Scotland itinerary a while back, and when I arrived, I was told a ladies tournament that day prevented any guest play. I sat and stared at those greens for a while, then crossed the street and up the road a few blocks to play the cliff-hanging Royal Tarlair and its great par 3 Clivet. Still, Duff House Royal looked the better overall course, and I wish I'd had a chance at putting on those greens.

How original are those greens though?... Are you sure they haven't been significantly tampered with?...

It's a long, long time since I played there so I can't recall...
