Black Rock....from the owner
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:48:09 PM »
Greetings all.

I spent a good part of the day yesterday, following the post that stated…..

“I just heard that Black Rock announced today that they are filing Chapter 11.  Astounding range to go from Best New Private to Chapter 11 in just a few years..

Obviously, my first response was to call Marshall Chesrown (Black Rock’s owner)  to get the story. Below is his email response.

“Jim thanks for the heads up. My phone and email were ringing off the hook and I was wondering where in the hell it was coming from. We are certainly having our challenges as most clubs are, but the club is going to be fine, no issues of it going anywhere. If you are asked, the club is a completely separate entity from any of my other developments and has very little debt. This type of false information is usually started by competition and that is unfortunate for the industry.”

It is clear that no such “announcement” was made by Black Rock. So at the very least this post is simply unfounded.

I was saddened that such a thing would be posted without verification or credibility. Goodness knows how many people have seen the initial post and are sharing this misinformation. In the world of “image creation” this is a big deal.  The fact that it came from a member of the golf media is well….…??? It would seem to be very helpful in getting to the truth of this matter by sharing the identity of source of the comment.

In the end I was encouraged and appreciative for the common sense and rational thought that prevailed by the members of this group.

In writing this post I have come to the realization that my participation with GCA is typically to defend or refute.  I promise to rectify that in the next few days by posting about our newest project, which is on the edge of the Nebraska Sand Hills near Kearney on I-80.

Jim, have you figured out how to post pictures yet?  That really makes those posts come alive!  Looking forward to seeing more of the great work that is found in the Sand Hills.  I gotta get to Nebraska soon...........

I am still trying to figure out how to keep from bringing this whole site down with my...ah....computer...ah... skills?? The guys in my office are convinced that I grew up in a cave.

I will try to figure out the photo thing. However there are not a great many postable photos of the site yet.

Thanks

I believe that an apology is in order.

...

Having grown up in Montana, that's exactly where we think you grew up!
 ;D ;D ;D ;D

EDIT
Perhaps I should explain. A favorite past time in Montana is to tell North Dakotan jokes.

This incident illustrates perfectly why participation from the industry is so vital here. Thank, Jim, and please thank the owner for setting the record straight.

Jim,
As guy who grew up in Kearney and goes back every year as a Sand Hills addict,  ( Plus to drop off my sons with their grandmother, otherwise she would shoot me )  please keep us informed.   There is a special spirit about the sand hills of Nebraska, whether it is the solitude, community spirit or the love of the game.
I played the Links at Craneview a few years ago, nice piece of property in my opinion, let us know how things are progressing and good luck.
