Why would anyone want to watch professional golfers play worse?  Right now there are 150 guys who could win in any week on Tour.   That is exciting to me.  Equipment advances have leveled the playing field.

As for bowling, they are looking for any gimmick to boost ratings.  Their UFC-style player entrances are beyond absurd.  Don't get me started on bowlers with sunglasses on indoors or cell phones on their hips.  What a joke.

I'd be as interested to see golfers play in some version of an equipment and course set-up throwback tournament as the next guy.  But, would pro golfers really take the risk of putting in the needed practice time with some older ball and club performance and swing weights, etc.,  and ruin their finely tuned to today's equipment golf swings that they work so hard to groove to the n'th degree of subtlety and precision?

If Tiger worked and trained for even two weeks with old stuff, would it take him weeks to shed the little hitches and subtleties in swing adjustments he may have to make in order to strike the ball and work it the way he'd see the course as dictating the shots?
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Folks, how about this little question: How many on here know that there is a world professional championship where all players are required to use hickory shafted clubs and turn-of-the-century style golf balls? Its contested every year. But how much of that do you see on TV? None.

Tennis faces the same problems. The only time people watch tennis is one of their majors (Australian, French, US and Wimbledon) or maybe if Roger Federer is playing Nadal in a final some place. Yet they don't try to fiddle with match set-ups, equipment, and other sorts of things.

The general public simply doesn't care to watch golf. They don't appreciate quality shotmaking, quality architecture, and the like. My wife constantly tells me how boring golf is. She's not alone in that statement. Adding in some doofy gimmicks won't boost any ratings for golf.
