Stripes In The Rough
« on: September 17, 2008, 08:45:08 PM »
While watching "Live From" on the Golf Channel I have noticed that all of the rough at Valhalla is striped. I don't mind stripes in the fairway but don't care too much for it in the rough, seems overly busy to say the least. What does everyone think?

I'm sorry, but what's with 2nd hole?  They seriously shortened it "tougher" as a par 4?  It's match play, it doesn't matter!

Greg

The clue should be in the name ‘The Rough’.

To spend more time thus money in this area seems to be asking
the question ‘Why’

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or does this club just like spending money on no-essential things?

My Opinion is leave well alone and revert to form as I said above the clue is in the name’ The Rough’

Well, without seeing the lines, if you are mowing in two different directions, you will get stripes. So, its likely they are not using a mower wide enough to cover the entire rough, and there is probably not a mower wide enough. So, either you take more time and cut all the same direction or do it like its being done currently. It may also depend on the type of grass. I have never noticed stripes with bermuda rough.

Kind of looks like the front lawn of a office building or a warehouse.

If you were to just drive in circle around the entire hole wouldn't you avoid these stripes... the right side would be mowed in one direction and the left side in the other. It seems to me like it might actually be easier and more efficient.

I guess that is what a circle looks like...  :-\ :-\haha.... maybe we could get some of the fairways to look like some of the hideous mowing patterns at mlb stadiums. All I know if that Valhalla looks goofy with all those stripes. Or maybe we could mow it like that in circles... and play target golf. Like that stupid green on the short par 4. What a stupid hole that is as a drivable par 4.

Maybe they'll change the mowing for the event?  It could be it's just more efficient to mow that way...

Even if they changed the mowing... those stripes will be burnt into the grass for a few weeks.
