Philly Cricket Club to have 63 holes of golf
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:34:56 AM »
Well, that was the plan!  I ran into this March 14, 1920 article by Perry Lewis from the Philadelphia Inquirer where possible changes at Cricket are discussed.  Some of this is old news to me, but some is new.  Enjoy!

Did Tillie design any of the additional holes that were not built (like the other course at Five Farms)?

Jim,

Unlike Five Farms, the Tillinghast 36 hole design at Cricket Club was supplanted by his 18 hole design that borrowed land across the original 36 hole property.

In other words, it would never have been possible to build the second course at Cricket Club to Tillinghast's original plans.

I love the Tillinghast course and am hopeful it will see the same kind of dusting off and brushing up that was done at your place.    The Hurdzan/Fry Militia Hill course is good modern golf, as well, but suffers a bit in comparison.
