LPGA event to move from California desert to the bay

February 4, 2008

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) -- The LPGA Tour's Samsung World Championship is moving this fall from the California desert to the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

The tournament, which features an elite field of 20 players, had been at Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert the last four years.

The move will give northern California consecutive weeks of women's golf. The Samsung Championship will be played Oct. 2-5, one week before the Longs Drugs Challenge in Danville.

Half Moon Bay, designed by Arthur Hills in 1997, becomes the 15th course to host the Samsung.

Not so fast, my friend.

It could be Ya-Goog.

BTW, this is the old course at HMB, correct?  They change their names so damn much I can never keep them straight.

If you use Yahoo, MSN or Google search you could find your answer ...

The Ocean course is the new one, with the vista and the views.  The Old Course is well, the old course, routed through the homes.

Indeed.  And it worked well with Yahoo.  I just didn't know whether to trust their web site, or the published reports, to be perfectly honest.

But I guess we can trust both... so yes, the event shall be played on the newer course, the one that's a pretty darn good golf course.

It should be interesting to watch.

And the new course really is in a beautiful location, its the next best thing to being on the penisula itself.

I do wonder where everyone will stay though. Half Moon Bay is not exactly a city, more small town in nature.

What's wrong with you Tom? It would be GooHoo, or Yagle.

Garland - my bad, those are much better.

 ;D

Kalen - it's a small field event, so the players and their entourages will stay at the Ritz.  Caddies and other officials will find plenty of other lodging in or near HMB.  Spectators will drive in.  Parking might be a hassle, but there's lots of nereby vacant land and they can shuttle people in.  Seems like a logistical winner to me.

A full-field event might get problematic though, agreed.

True Huck,

A small field event would work just fine there.  And that time of the year in the fall, the water is excellent for taking a nice dip.  I've been up and down that beach many times just north of the HMB golf links.
