Got my much awaited volume of "The Evolution of The Links at The Royal County Down Golf Club".
Yes, 60 pounds ... but oh so worth it in my opinion.
I think if you appreciate fine GCA ... you simply MUST get this book.
Just a fantastic volume by Richard A. Latham.
Best way I can describe this is it combines:
- 1) solid history of the club and the holes themselves (e.g. how the holes came to be, how they've changed, who worked on what, etc.)
- 2) breathtaking photography (on all holes and various vantage points)
- 3) illustrations a la Richard Goodale's "Experience Carnoustie Golf Links" etc. series
- 4) fine detailed explanations to the greens (a first I've ever seen)
- 5) fantastic production quality
Just superbe overall. There's no question now that I'm getting the Woodhall Spa volume as well.
Let's put it this way, when you head across the pond to play this beauty ... if you're not prepared after reading this cover to cover ... nothing will prepare you.
