Tim, both courses are good, the first 5 and last 4 on Harbour are excellent.  The condos etc. surrounding the property are a fact of life, none of them are on the courses!
Enjoy them, better value than some others.

Columbia also bears the burden of Masters traffic.

Course conditioning is not exactly primo at this time of year. The bermuda generally has not come back. However it is still warmer than the northeast!

Our club (Columbia CC) does not overseed the hybrid Bermuda greens. This is the time of year I give thanks for that because they are beautiful while most other courses in town have patchy wet greens in transition. They're still a bit longer and not as fast as they will be in a month or so but putting true and consistent.

Tim,

If you find yourself in the Charleston/Isle of Palms area forget Wild Dunes and go play Patriots Point.  Before a misguided management company decided to sink many millions into it to make it lush and attractive to tourists, it was about the fastest, funnest course one could imagine on this side of the Pond.  Still, they didn't manage to ruin it.

There is nothing at Wild Dunes that can compare to the back nine at Patriots Point, especially if playing late afternoon/early evening.

THE NEXT SEVEN:  Alfred E. Tupp Holmes Municipal Golf Course, Willi Plett's Sportspark and Driving Range, Peachtree, Par 56, Browns Mill, Cross Creek, Piedmont Driving Club

Have to concur with those who have opined on pre-housing Wild Dunes and post. The place was indeed unique when it opened and provided the first nationally known layout to put Charleston on the golf map.

However ...

Since the invasion of housing the place has indeed changed. It still has its moments but they are nowhere near as fun when the place was more alone and away from all the clutter.

Frankly, Wild Dunes is more about yesterday -- Kiawah has long since supplanted it and with other layouts nearby (see Bull's Bay, Briar Creek, Daniel's Island) the landscape has indeed moved further and further up the ladder IMHO.

P.S. Since I went to school at USC in Columbia I can vouge for the qualities of Columbia CC -- a favorite professor of mine was a member there and the layout does have strong holes to boot. I was told improvements have been made and I would certainly like to know if that's true.

One other course worth playing and it's in Johnston-Saluda is Persimmon Hill -- right off Hwy 376, if memory serves. I used to play the layout numerous time right before and after The Masters -- they even have two rather fun and unique par-5's that challenge the player to carry water on the second shot if you dare.
